Lets talk GEC!

That purple looks cool! Hopefully, that material makes its way onto a smaller knife in the future. I need a purple knife to carry while my LSU Tigers are puking all over the field...

The Mad Hatter needs all the help he can get....it is an attractive cover material though.

The more tolerant you are of the variations in traditional knives, the happier a knife owner you can be.

If you go looking at any knife with a microscope, you can probably find something to make you unhappy with it.

For me, if it looks good enough and works good enough (for the price I paid), that's good enough.

Some of my favorite knives have various flaws when I decide to focus on them. When I don't focus on the flaws, they return to just being my favorite knives. :)

If I were to ever get a knife that was unacceptable to me for some reason, I would certainly return to the vendor or send in to the manufacturer if covered under warranty. So far out of 100+ traditional knives, I have never needed to do that.

Helps that I can fix minor issues myself, of course.

The violet dog bone is to be similar to the 'muscle bone' or 'pioneer bone' in that it will have the natural surface - they will not be jigged (that is a misprint). GEC is trying to make them look more like camel bone, with a variegated or speckled colored surface. They are next up for production. Should be very cool!
I didn't see on the website, is this an SFO?
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!
I may have a few GECs that I could say aren't perfect, but none that I would want to return. The only one that bothered me was my #89 clip point did not nestle completely between the scales, and was constantly jagging me. It took about 30 seconds for Chris to get it fixed for me at the factory.

I don't mind some minor imperfections here and there, as it reminds me that real people are making these.

If anyone watched Parks and Recreation, and is familiar with the character Ron Swanson - he made a beautiful wooden chair, then immediately smashed it because it was "too perfect" and nobody would know that it was made by man's hands.

Throughout all my GEC purchases, there have been two issues I've seen more than once:

1) Uneven/thick edges
2) Near proud tips

Here are my thoughts on each:

1) The edges have been improved significantly. Of the knives I've bought over the last year or so, they've all been shaving sharp out of the tube. They are still sometimes thicker than I like, especially at the edge, but they are less thick sharper and overall much improved.

2) I am more picky about this than most, admittedly. I carry/use all the knives I keep (at least so far), so I think I notice truly proud tips more (nobody likes to get poked). However, I also think I just don't like how it looks even when the tip isn't necessarily proud but even or close. I also understand why this is often the case. It is much much more difficult to lengthen the kick than it is to take off of it, and the user can take off of the kick but would be hard pressed to add to it. I often take off of the kicks of my knives, but I will say I also often don't have to. I think it is quite pattern dependent.

These 'violet dog bones' are a production model for the Northfield 72L:

Well , it is what it is , but I was hoping for some jigging to bring out the color more. But I guess the color is already out.
We will see what it looks like in my hands.
It might become a Christmas Gift to somebody ?????
It is a 72 and it is a Northfields , so that is not too bad me thinks.
I can hardly wait . I just paid for the 72 Stag.

I do like the violet. Wouldn't have thought so, but I'm intrigued now. I'm thinking I'll have to get me one of these. 😀

If this is the Violet what is the mystery handle material they have been posting as Ebony? There is no Ebony on this run of 72's is there?
Thanks for any clarification,
Rick

That purple, er Violet, is a great shade! It looks very similar in color to the Grape jigged bone they did awhile ago - of which I have a #25. Only these will have a lot more variation knife to knife.

Already got the Grizzly Cut #72, but these look nice, and I may spring for another one. Can't decide though if I like the darker handles or the lighter ones....

We'd do best to keep in mind that the bone may well look different once fitted and buffed.

Not that it won't look good, or even Better?!

But, I've become excited about upcoming bone and its coloration at this stage of the process before, only to be baffled when presented the final product!

[I hope these keep the Deep Purple. :)]

I like how the dog bone is turning out. I hope we see other colors in future models. It seems like a nice alternative to the standard smooth bone that we see over and over. A really deep red would be super cool!

35 half scout just came up on reserve at collector knives...and they are all reserved... lol how many varients of the 35 are coming out? a couple sfo's forum knife, and regular production run?

Pretty sure it's just the forum knives and the charlie sfo. For now anyway
