Lets talk GEC!

Not a fan of the purple pioneer violet dog bone or whatever they call it.
It looks like they had just finished emptying that whiskey barrel at the end of the corridor by drinking it when they thought of this.
That and purple is the official colour of the international gay community. Not that there's anything wrong with that and gay people use knives too. Could be a lucrative new market demographic.
Bring back Pond Bone -now that was classy.

And just to throw another spanner into the metaphorical works; purple is the liturgical colour often used for the Christian season of Lent. Ecclesiastical purple. Also a royal colour in many traditional Christian backgrounds, it has often been used for Advent for that reason too. :)

Personally I'd like to see reptile bone again. That stuff looked fantastic!

Reptile bone... Tell me more?

Mike, I really look forward to seeing the flood of pictures heading this way when these all arrive to the lucky ones who grabbed one. Should make for some great shots as they are being carried through the coming fall. Thanks for getting these out there.

Wow. That purple bone is very.......... Nope. Don't like it. Don't like it at all.

Im back and forth on the purple. The dark fuller ones may look great with a dark patina. I showed my wife the 72 purples and then the size. She like them, but it wouldn't fit in her pocket (she has been wanting one of her own for a month or so).

While I am sure there are a few that like them I have to think this is a great knife to eventually mod.

I wonder if you stain the bone another color if it would have a darker mammoth effect with purple under tones.

I wish GEC would do a run of giraffe covers for a regular production model. I thought I read somewhere that the purple might have something to do with the success of the northwoods giraffe colors... green, orange, blue, multi-color...

They remind me a bit of a Crown Royal bag. I would say that is my draw to them. We used to put those crappy hand warmers that you filled with lighter fluid inside of a CR purple bag and carry it in our vest pockets. Those things worked great for about 15 minutes. Fresh snow and burning Zippo lighter fluid.... ahhh the memories!

was there a single blade 54? clip or spear?, thanks for any info. saw one and have been wondering if it was a mod

I just finished looking thru GEC's "Collect by Pattern" for a single 54 or 53 and (unless I missed it) there isn't one pictured. I was searching there because I like the "Northwoods Forest Jack" which is a 54 single with a "Bohncliffe" blade. I was hoping to find a single 54 with spear. Maybe next year from GEC.

love the pioneer violet bone and I hope it is used on a different pattern

Purple is also the official color of Northwestern University, and the Minnesota Vikings, to name just a couple examples. Case knives and Fiddleback Forge knives come in all sorts of different colors. I guess there is a market for it. But personally, I'm not a fan of the purple on the #72.
