Lets talk GEC!

You made good points, Bob.

I've been carrying my factory 2nd. Nice knife. It has a little dot on the pile side cover... looks like a mark from a drill. I'm tempted to scratch my name on the cover like "Earl". :D

A number of the current imports don't meet that description. Their blades hold up better than those currently made by Case. And the fit and finish is at least as good as that of the Camillus and Schrade knives I used in my youth.

I guess you must have gotten some better Chinese knives than I did. None of them come close to my Camillus 72 in F&F or any GEC that I have . I even tried one where the blade would just fall open. But that is okay I guess . Different strokes for different folks and that also goes for price points too.

I did not say they were the equal of GEC. The Camillus and Schrade knives I grew up with didn't hold a candle compared to GEC either.

Oops, seems I have a #73 on its way to me...

I've also been eyeing one of those Beagles Cola Jig Bones pretty hard...

Agree 100 percent about the garish writing on the blades. Why?! I can't think of any reason to do that and it's a major turnoff for me.

Wondering if anyone could help me with a production total question. I've been updating my knife collection catalogue and decided to add production totals for my GEC knives, since they are readily available for 2015 and back. I'm having trouble finding one particular knife from 2015, though. This #77 Yankee Jack (772215) in Antique Yellow Jigged Bone doesn't appear to be on the production totals anywhere. Am I missing something?

Are you 100% sure it's antique yellow? Does it say that on the tube? There was a 772215 pine green jig bone...although yours is a north field and the green jigged was a tidioute

I'll have to check the tube, but it's listed elsewhere on GEC's website as Antique Yellow.

It's definitely different than the Pine Green Tidioute -- I have one of those, too.

Barrett, I'm guessing that GEC simply forgot to add it to the production totals. I've noticed that on a few other regular production GEC knives.

Good idea adding production totals to your catalogue. Much easier to reference that way and it might be helpful when the knives are passed on to someone else.

Consider giving Christine a call at GEC. She might have a logical explanation.

I'm pretty sure it's Antique Yellow. I have the same knife and it's definitely not listed. That's not the first time either. I have several knives that aren't in the production totals, but they are all parts knives with extremely low numbers. Best chance would be to ask Christine at GEC, but considering these were made over a year ago, it's a long shot. Please post back whatever answer you do get. I'd like to know. Otherwise we can pretend that they are 1 of 5! :D

Thanks guys! Contacting Christine was my next step (I actually just sent her an email), but I figured I'd ask here first.

Just got an email back from Chris at GEC. Production total for that Antique Yellow #77 Yankee Jack was 74 pieces.

Thanks for posting that Barrett. Hope you like your 77 Antique Yellow. That particular knife is one of my favorite iterations of the 77 frame.

My first GEC knife - and still a favorite. I could never find it on their production totals page, and thought it was just my own failure to see things that are right in front of me sometimes. Thanks, Barrett.

I agree, it's definitely one of the best looking #77's, and in my opinion one of the best looking knives GEC has made. The color, the jigging, the lined bolsters and the long pull; what's not to love? :D

Wow. That's a beautiful 77. I have one of the Tidioute pine green Yankee Jacks. But that one is on a whole different level of awesomeness.

Looks like GEC posted a few new in-progress photos of Charlie's upcoming single-clip TC Barlow. Looking good!
