Lets talk GEC!

Hello:) Just wanted to say hi to everybody hanging around the GEC section of the porch. I've been lurking around the edge for a while now. I had a big mail call last Saturday and I'm pretty excited. I'm enamered with all things GEC right now. I jumped in head first and built up a nice core collection to carry, use, and collect.

Here was my mail call. These 74's ordered by DLT really check all the boxes for me. I've been in the tree business my entire working life so the shields really appealed to me. I just love oak trees. The camel bone is superb. The snakewood is nice but the pile side is a 10/10, the mark side, so so. Plus there is a small chip in the wood. I'm not complaing it'll just give me more motivation to use it.

Also very happy to have this. I really enjoy Rob's channel. The last video interviews with Zoe Crist and Uncle Jessie are a great example of why. The ebony is outstanding. The shield sets it off. What a beauty.

Here are a couple more of my recent acquisitions. The TC Barlow is amazing. I see why they are so liked so much. My inexperience had me pull the trigger on one where the bone didn't take the dye so well on the mark side. It's perfectly ok it just has a little different character than the others.

See ya around the porch :)

Hi Chris, good to hear from you. What a mail call! That is a spectacular trio of 74s, all smooth with fluted bolsters. Just gorgeous. Great barlows as well. I definitely have the GEC bug as well. Look forward to seeing what else you pick up...

Excellent additions there, Chris! It's funny, I just came to this same conclusion with my snakewood 74 - it may not be the most stunning as far as handle slabs are concerned, but it still looks good and is a darn fine knife. I wanted it to be a user, and it seems like it's just begging for that!

Hi John. I have a DLT sfo autumn leaf jigged bone on it's way. So that'll mess up the all smooth handle cover #74 theme I have going ;) I knew I would regret it if I didn't. I'll post up some pics when it arrives.

Thanks spycycle. Yea when I pre ordered the 2 I thought I was going to use the camel bone and display and save the snakewood. Once I got them both in hand I knew it would be the other way around. I really like the camel bone! If I had the extra money I would buy a 2nd one. They are extremely nice.

Shock. I have the autumn leaf and think it's great! Very consistent color and I like the jigging pattern. I wish I had ordered a smooth too. It's a great handling knife.

Any day now.

I know it's almost ancient history now but I've not seen an answer, and I've been looking in all the likely places. What happened to the fixed blade 73's? Mike? Barry? Jamie? others....anyone know?
Thanks,
Rick

Yes, I got the snakewood, and it is mostly wood and very little snake. A little disappointing, but still a good knife for the money. In the future DLT needs to post each snakewood, because some look more like an ebony than a snakewood. I'll put this one in the user pile and hope for something better next time. I have a few snakewoods from earlier GEC's and when right, there aren't many that are prettier.

Rick, I've been wondering the same, myself. They were going through final inspection on 12/27, but nothing has gone on sale yet.

Alan, those Yellow Rose 74s are looking mighty fine!

It would've been nice to select which handles you got, but I'm just glad DLT does a pre-order for their SFOs!

Shawn, I saw a post elsewhere that said they were waiting on sheaths.

Thanks,
Rick

Fixed blades are something they just fit in between runs; but I will ask.

Thanks guys for the responses on the 73 fixed blades. Waiting on sheaths makes sense. I began to feel I had taken a nap and missed them.
Take care,
Rick

Thank y'all for the responses on the H73s. I was getting worried that there may had been another Green 77 situation where somehow a bunch of them got messed up.
