Lets talk GEC!

Alan thank you for your reply. Any idea when? You said any day earlier in the thread, I guess I should just check dealers often?

Just check them often. Several dealers have the cocobolo now and the ebonies are showing up. Seems to be about a week or so after production. The greens should hit any day now and yellow will follow.

The yellow is neat, but I have a couple smooth yellow Moore makers already. The green is awesome as is the ebony but I want northfield and the awesome swedge. I'm also waiting to see what bone is in the NF's before I decide which I'll pick up. I might get a green one also as it's just too pretty and I don't have any green jigged bone.

The green is the Tidioute jigged version but I can't seem to find what the Northfield color will be...

You're right. I completely whiffed that one. It doesn't even say TBD as it has on others in production? This has been really confusing for me. I bought a Autumn (Leaf) jigged bone from DLT's SFO on reserve. But, at that time the smooth bone was said to be TBD. Had I known the colors I would have bought another one. Those smooth SFO's came out so nice.

Thanks SVTFreak. That helps a ton :)

Well, I finally ordered my first GEC. Don't have it yet, but it should be here early next week. After looking at 72's for a long time, I happened to see the new 74's that came out and I decided that was what I have been looking for. I love the single blade clip and wood happens to be my favorite handle material. Throw in the half stop and I was sold. I'm really looking forward to getting my first GEC after having quite a few Case knives. However, in true Jared fashion (I'm Jared), I bought the cocobolo version since I was so excited to see a pattern that I fell in love with...annnnd then I saw the ebony version with the satin blade. I know GEC's don't stay around long so I jumped on it only to see one that I liked more, mainly because of the satin blade. Anyone else experience this?? If there was a cocobolo handle and satin blade, I'd gladly take the wrath of my wife and not wait until my knife budget reset for the month. So hopefully there will be some ebony handled 74's left over for next month. The point is, I'm very happy to purchase my first Great Eastern Cutlery....

Congrats! It is fairly easy to satin a polished blade yourself. A little 600 grit sandpaper and a scotchbrite pad. Its not hard at all to have a factory looking satin blade finish. Or buy the Ebony and sell the coco on the exchange! Good luck!

Thank you my friend. Maybe I'll try it. I've done bolsters, but I've never been brave enough to try a blade. I reckon I can try it with an older knife and see how it comes out. I may have to wait and see how long the ebony is around...I don't know if I'll want to part with my first GEC (even though I didn't even lay eyes on it yet). I don't know if you can tell but I'm excited about it....

Congrats Jared on your first GEC. Nice choice. I'm sure it won't be your last. GEC makes great quality knives, and you just can't have one :)

I'm excited about the upcoming 38's.

Drawing of upcoming single clip 38 is right above here. Wow, I didn't expect to see that. I suppose it's a heck of a lot easier to make than a split back whittler...

Arg, I was hoping for another run of an older pattern would be next.

I'm undecided on the new 38s. They look great but as a single blade I'm uncertain. Seems similar to the 12 Powderhorn Pattern that didn't seem to be a hit, though I do like the 12 pattern. I think a 2 blade single spring would have helped it imo.

I'm liking the #38, good size and yes single blade only...but I rarely use a secondary. Don't have a 38 and might as well start on this one.
They do need to vary the shield some on the Tidioute's...got enough hotdogs.

So is this a california or turkish clip...thinking turk?

Brett, I thought the exact same thing when I saw them. I have and enjoy a single blade 12 and would rather have a 38 with one blade on each end. Still, it should be a big hit.

Just realized DLT has a slew of the orange camel bone 74's in stock.... decisions, decisions. I may have to get the Yellow Rose AND the orange camel bone!

I was going to post just that, but I see you found it. Some of those orange look really spotty and washed out. But at least DLT puts the actual knife and both sides on their site as some of our other dealers do too. I'm uncertain. Is the mottled orange destined to become another user due to color inconsistency?

I actually really like that look! Especially when the bone is cracked and the dye gravitates towards them. It is nice to see each knife individually. I was just about to send the link to my fiancee to see which one she liked better (I'm basically colorblind :)).

Good news for you Bullnose fans! The GEC 71s are on today's production schedule.

Finally!!! I've been waiting for my canvas micarta Mudbug since mid-September. I was starting to lose my patience. I have now idea how people wait years for a custom knife.

I also like the look and different characteristics of them all and like the cracks . Although I have one on the way camel bone #74 but this one I picked because both covers looked very similar with a pretty uniform creamy orange . Thought it was cool also the camel bone # 74 matched the model # . Was going to pick one the year I was born but didn't care for the covers lol . I think it's really nice that DLT lets you pick the one you like by showing great pictures of both sides of the covers [emoji106]

I do kind of like the look, except I don't see one that is consistent on both sides. I have too many on my "must have next" list anyway
