Lets talk GEC!

Hello:) Just wanted to say hi to everybody hanging around the GEC section of the porch. I've been lurking around the edge for a while now. I had a big mail call last Saturday and I'm pretty excited. I'm enamered with all things GEC right now. I jumped in head first and built up a nice core collection to carry, use, and collect.

Here was my mail call. These 74's ordered by DLT really check all the boxes for me. I've been in the tree business my entire working life so the shields really appealed to me. I just love oak trees. The camel bone is superb. The snakewood is nice but the pile side is a 10/10, the mark side, so so. Plus there is a small chip in the wood. I'm not complaing it'll just give me more motivation to use it.

Also very happy to have this. I really enjoy Rob's channel. The last video interviews with Zoe Crist and Uncle Jessie are a great example of why. The ebony is outstanding. The shield sets it off. What a beauty.

Here are a couple more of my recent acquisitions. The TC Barlow is amazing. I see why they are so liked so much. My inexperience had me pull the trigger on one where the bone didn't take the dye so well on the mark side. It's perfectly ok it just has a little different character than the others.

See ya around the porch :)
Wow beautiful #74s!!!

Awww, GEC, you're killing me. I thought I was clear of temptation when I saw that the AAPK wasn't as green as I'd like and now there's a nice bright spring green one. Doh! I couldn't be happier with my two DLT 74s and I've successfully convinced myself I don't need a third, but man that spring green makes it tough. :o

I'd only planned to get the smooth oiled bone, but when I saw the in process photos of the orange, I had to have that one, too. Oak leaf shield is just too perfect against autumny orange bone.

No regrets. :D

Edited to update image url from current GEC cover to a photo of the spring green jigged bone 74s.

I think to oiled bone is the sleeper best handle of the run. The depth that GEC gets out of plain white bone is unreal...

I've always found the yellow rose knives to be quite the lookers, but for some reason I never gave the 74 in yellow rose a second thought prior to the production pics.
But wow! Those really turned out nice.

Those yellow roses look a little washed out IMO. More like what GEC has called lemon zest in the past. It's not a bad look, but not the deep, bright yellow I've seen in the past. I realize some bone slabs don't absorb the dye as readily as other batches. The spring greens look great to my eye.

Yeah, I knew I pulled the trigger on the Ebony too soon. That Spring Green is a must-have for me.

Me too. I ordered an ebony and a Northfield jigged bone, and just jumped on the green Tidioute as well. I'll end up selling/trading one, saving one and using one.

Thank you :)

Yea I'm bummed I missed out on this one. I'll try and grab one off the exchange if I ever get a chance.

Shock. I have the autumn leaf and think it's great! Very consistent color and I like the jigging pattern. I wish I had ordered a smooth too. It's a great handling knife.

I agree. The color and jigging go good with the leaf shield. I've always liked drop point blades and I think it looks great on the 74. It feels great in the hand and the bone adds a nice weight and feel. I'm glad I grabbed one of these. Here are a couple quick pics of mine that just arrived. It's dark and murky here today so the pics aren't the best.

I know it's almost ancient history now but I've not seen an answer, and I've been looking in all the likely places. What happened to the fixed blade 73's? Mike? Barry? Jamie? others....anyone know?
Thanks,
Rick

Sheaths are in-house, now will just fit them in between runs.

Does anyone know what color the Northfield jigged 74s are going to have? Have I just not looked in the right places? :p

Last I looked the colors were pictured on the GEC website. Green, but I don't see a name of the green.

The green is the Tidioute jigged version but I can't seem to find what the Northfield color will be...

I don't think they've said what the NF jigged color(s) will be yet. I hope they reveal tomorrow, and it's something they don't often use. I like variety...within reason.

The Oak Leaf versions really look great on the Smooth Bones, nice Drop Point too. My pet nag is about the sink-hole pin that GEC opts for with a lot of its releases these days. To me, it detracts from the quality and appearance. I have a number of GEC knives that have 4 domed or flat pins and no solitary sink-hole, so they can do it, and it looks better.
