Lets talk GEC!

Yea I got lucky and got a Cocobolo I really like and would of been one I picked out .
I've been eyeing your Cocobolo in the other threads. It's a keeper!

I am curious about these upcoming 48s and 54s. Care to enlighten the uneducated?

I saw it online posted that 48's and 54's are coming soon.

You know GEC can change their schedule at any time. Until I see work in progress pictures I don't rely on anybody for accurate information... In a sense I don't even rely on information posted directly from GEC. For example, they posted pictures of the single blade 38's and that makes some people assume that's all they will make. After it's all said and done GEC usually ends up with all sorts of variations and SFO's and things added on after you thought the run was completed. I used to be surprised by this. Now I'm surprised if it's not this way.

Side note, in the #48 thread someone posted that the Northwoods Hawthorne is going into production soon too.

Are those camel bone? Apparently there's even more variation in the dye results then with cow. I'd never had a camel covered knife, and when I ordered my Coyote, I chose one of the lighter versions of "Brown" on the theory that the bone on mine must be denser, therefore stronger. :D I agree in cases like this it really was nice to be able to see pictures of the individual knife. Someone else may have been disappointed with this one:

I love it!

The ones I posted are Camel bone yep! Yours looks very good. I was surprised though to see that on the ones I was looking at in the 74's the mark side would be very light and the pile side would be much darker.

I'm a little worried now because I have one on the way from DLT a Ebony Stallion non sfo with no pictures . Although I've been pretty lucky with DLT on previous purchases .

When the handle material is consistent we typically don't do individual pictures. With the orange camel bone there was such a variance, as seen in the above photos, there was no doubt we had to take individual shots. I think this go around we had also set up the guys (and gals) on preorder to pick which one they wanted. This was something that was requested in the past and with this run we did for the orange.

We will continue to improve our photography on these knives and just hired someone this week who will specialize in taking photos for products. I will do my best to make sure we can get as many unique photos for the runs of knives that we get.

I got a couple knives from DLT that I wasn't happy with the covers, but that was before they started taking individual pictures and it had nothing to do with DLT or GEC.. it was just my personal preference. DLT has great customer service, would buy from again, but only individually imaged knives when it's needed. An ebony knife I'm fine not having images, but something like the cocobolo I'm not buying without seeing the knife. It was available from several dealers with individual pictures and some without. The dealers with individual images are sold out, and the one's that didn't take separate pictures still have them in stock.
Just my opinion and experience, yours will likely be different.

For sure although as mentioned on a earlier post I wanted the Cocobolo Stallion so bad I took a gamble and it payed off . Super happy with the one I received from DLT and a Ebony Stallion from DLT should be waiting for me when I get home . It'll be a user and very excited to get this one .
I really love the size , feel and Blade on these stallions .

Posting these videos for members who may not have seen them before. Bill Howard gives Crawford County Outdoors a tour of Great Eastern Cutlery, circa 2013.

I watch them periodically just to remind myself what goes into the knives we love so well.

Looking for my first single blade 25 in sheepsfoot or wharincliff my question is I see a lot of them in EO version with the two blade types I mentioned do I really need the EO or is there enough blade showing when closed to easily pinch it open . Thanks

The DLT Mustangs were my first experience with a GEC preorder and I was seriously impressed. I thought it was handled beautifully start to finish, and once I saw how much variation there was in the orange, I was very relieved to be able to pick the specific knife I wanted. *tips hat* Props to you and your company.

Another great Stallion from Gec & DLT [emoji106]

It will keep my Cocobolo company [emoji846]

There is enough blade showing on the sheepsfoot to pinch it open without an EO notch. In my limited experience with a couple of wharncliffe #25s, they have a heavier pull and less exposed blade, which makes them much harder to pinch open.

@TheFactor , that's a beautiful pair! I only have a handful of GECs, but I love the 74 so much I also have two, which is very rare for me to double up. When I see all these beautiful covers, I want more!
