Lets talk GEC!

Neither did I consider sending the stallion back because like me it does what is asked but is a bit different (thus spake the knife god?)Like a yellowy green moss it is growing on me:D

I got a really good chuckle out of this. If anyone has a picture of the more yellowish Stallions, I'd love to see one. I'm really curious what they look like now.

I totally empathize with your frustration regarding the variability in the production schedule, but I'm not sure I would prefer that they make all the knives and then drop them all at once. If they did this, all the releases could wind up looking like the Northwoods ones. Although I'm a big fan of Northwoods knives, I find the releases to be somewhat stressful and unpleasant. (I realize I'm veering dangerously close to discussing the purchasing process here. Sorry, Frank.)

Pt-Luso - Great 15s! The colors really pop in your photo. I especially like the two blade clip in the middle.

I, too, got a very yellow spring green 74. It arrived just yesterday and am very disappointing since i love the spring green sawcut on my 77 Barlow. Looks nothing close to the 77 color. everything else is flawless and the blade is super duper sharp (GEC sharpeners have stepped up their game!).

Mine is v sharp out of tube too.
As it made short work of my Australia Day bbq steak yesterday I realised how stupid I am -an Aussie complaining about green and gold on Australia day!? thats tantamount to sedition round these parts.
Anyway as it neatly sliced of waffer thin morsels of rare scotch fillet I realised that the main point of my"beef" :D:rolleyes::thumbup: (gee I amuse myself sometimes) is not the colour of the dye but consistency across the run at that price.
Perhaps I've come to expect higher and more exacting standards from GEC -that's a compliment- based on past purchases.

I actually like the green and yellow bone. I hope to find one for sale.

this relates to what I'm talking about-pm sent non bf dealer mentioned.

That's a great pic of your 15s Pt Luso.

Thanks for reposting. I somehow missed it.

Yeah, that is pretty much Day-Glo yellow. Wow.

No worries I almost missed it to but one thing for sure I can't forget it lol .
You know it wouldn't be bad and probably could live with it but the edge looks a little tacky . Looks like the rattle can started spitting [emoji30]
Edit: Btw I wouldn't be posting my thoughts if Meako didn't already post his lack of happiness with it or I would of kept my thoughts to myself .

See my previous post on the second batch of Smooth Orange bone 74's. This is why I like when dealers put up an actual photo of the knife by number. I like my AL 74 and my Smooth Oiled bone and got to see both before I purchased. I know some guys like the mottled smooth orange. I don't particularly. To me it looks like a mistake. I know it has to do with the bone not taking up the dye etc.. But, I would not have bought one of those. So, it's best when dealers photo and number each knife.

Couldn't agree more and a picture definitely tells the tale as far as what your going to get [emoji106]

Looks like a few things going on. First the "roll the dice result you get when dying a natural material. You know your dye but each time you add the X factor of the bone the result is a surprise. And since they run such tiny production numbers on a tight schedule there's no room to re-do or change.

Second thing is the colour settings on the camera they shot the images with and if they were subject to any post production processing or correction and the colour settings on the viewer's computer monitor. Both of those issues have huge effects. They can't do anything about the end user settings but they could setup an art department to vet the images and be sure the images match the physical item. The problem with that is that it adds a lot in costs and time. I don't think anyone here wants the knives to be under embargo for weeks while someone checks the files out pixel by pixel.

Danke: You're right about both points. But, the differences we are talking about cannot be attributed to differences in post processing or color settings on a monitor. I recognize that there can be some wide differences with monitors and posting any photo on the web is a crapshoot but, these are substantial differences. Here are two examples. Sorry DLT I borrowed your photos.

I guess the only fix is to do like KSF does when they have a run of Northwoods and shoot and list each knife individually. That way if you like the one with the white fade you can order it instead of being surprised by it when you open the tube.

I agree. That's actually what I was saying in my previous post. KSF and DLT do that. Since my 74's were DLT SFO's I had that advantage in this case.

Anyone else noticed the #38 special on gec's site?

The Congress got a whittler added. I love the shape of the blade but it's to much like a weird toothpick to me with single blade. Anyone else want to see a 38 special with a small stockman style sheepsfoot on the back end of the single spring? I would buy one in every handle material.

I'm a little worried now because I have one on the way from DLT a Ebony Stallion non sfo with no pictures . Although I've been pretty lucky with DLT on previous purchases .
