Lets talk GEC!

I am hoping it is not a cloud shield on the ebony, I reserved one of those as well. The stag would be my first pick for this or any other GEC right now but......I won't buy it sight unseen and I am never fast enough to get one I want so I own 0 stag knives.

Lol, I have owned a few but they were on single blade knives and I just don't carry single blade traditionals and have let them all go. One of these days the stars will aline ;)

Well, after some extensive research I found that other than SFOs GEC uses their cloud shield for their wood covered NF knives(along with the occasional acrylic and bone), and the hot dog is for the tiduoette wood knives(along with micarta and possibly acrylic and bone)
So I figured I would just wait and see what the ebony looks like before I pick one up. As far as the stag goes, I've always avoided them for the same reason. I am just going to hope that I can jump the gun and pick out a nice one when these hit. It will be my first stag knife.

I could be wrong ( it happens a lot) but I thought GEC stopped putting shields on stag handles? I have a NF viper that does not have a shield.

Yes they did. I reread my post and see where it was confusing. I was saying that I've avoided stag knives for the same reason as rock golfer. I can be picky about how stag comes out.

But while we are on the subject, I was surprised to see the stag bear lakes come with the arrowhead shield. Until then I had took bill's decision about no more shields on stag to be a hard fast rule. So I guess that means if someone were to do an sfo they could opt to have shields on their stag handled knives.

Oh yeah. I see now what you meant. True though, the bear lakes did have the shield? Confusing.

Haha I'm sure you will find the right one. If you could find one in Stag what is your ideal pattern?

Probably any variation of the 66 frame except the standard jack configuration. Maybe an 82 or perhaps a 76 :D......good question!

Yowsa! That sir, is a beauty indeed. Yeah, that would be at the top of the list for sure. Thanks for sharing :)

Looking at it more that is a very special knife you got there. The 38's are arguably some of the best fit and finished knives they have made. A rarer clip with no long pull and it has a shield in the stag! That really is a special knife

Jamie That's a mythology knife! The Stag of Legend :D

I'm just hoping they change the forthcoming run of the 38s, I don't care for that Toothpick look skimpy Turkish Clip blade they're proposing at all. They could make a truly fantastic Penknife from it, big Clip with a Wharncliffe, Coping or Modified Pen. All steel with Tat-Tails including a full stainless option. Peach Seed light bone, a dark Horsecut, Stag, Osage Orange, Smooth Camel, and Ivory Micarta and Red Cloth Micarta!! Well, got to have some dreams to keep the reality of life at bay...:thumbup:

Thanks, Will

Yeah I don't care for the clip blade there proposing at all. I saw were a few other members also didn't like it. Hopefully the powers that be are listening and it makes a difference. :D

I have nothing else to add, Will sums it up nicely

Me too - passing on this one unless something changes... Do what Will says and put me down for several.

i believe gec's doing a run of northwoods hawthorne jacks -- could be wrong, but i think those use the 38 pattern. maybe they're just putting out a gec/tid/nf 38 alongside the northwoods release. seems like that would be efficient from a manufacturing/business standpoint.

I don't even mind that cali clip IF the blade on the other end is a stockman style sheepsfoot. Gives a combo of a slicer and a worker and that would be just perfect with me. The toothpick pattern was not a popular release for GEC based on my browsing habits, stock sat on dealers shelves for years!
