Lets talk GEC!

I love muskrat clips - I must be the only one. Schrade 897 for the win!!

Thanks Jamie and Barrett - I like to keep the old pics for comparison shots. They, along w/ several of their friends, had to be sold for family reasons. I see them floating around every now and then.

I kept the Abalone as it was a gift from my wife. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it as a special occasions gent's knife or just use it as a daily.

I'm actually surprised to see the 48s again so soon. I thought the 66s might get the nod.

We should have a running pool on what pattern GEC does next after each announcement. 😉

Thanks for that comparison photo showing both the muskrat clip and regular clip on the #48. Confirmed my decision not to reserve one. (We'll see if I still feel the same once the knives start coming out.) That knife on the bottom looks just about perfect! Wish I'd been around when those came out.

I think the muskrat will actually play quite nicely in the improved trapper. The low riding profile should make it feel like a single blade while using the wharncliffe.
As far as being around when things come out...I got the Elk 48 just before my son was born in 2012 (I thought it might be my last knife HAHAHA). I wish I had bought up everything that was available at that time - which is probably why I'm doing that now...

No, you aren't alone. I love the muskrat clip blade. Especially with spring right around the corner and the start of turkey hunting. I have yet to find a better blade for cutting the breast meat out of a wild turkey than a muskrat clip. Works well on all poultry or game birds.

Fortunately for my wallet I'm not really into the 48's. Now if it was a square end 73 trapper I would be in deep trouble. Just wondering, why is the bloodwood so popular? What is it exactly?

Bloodwood looks awesome so lots of people want it.

Speaking of flipped patterns, it amuses me that 74 = 47 flipped, or vice versa. Not sure which came first. The numbers are flipped; the style is flipped. I like the symmetry (for lack of a better word) of it. :D
The effect is kinda lost with the clip point 74 though. :(

(Sorry for diversion. Now back to the 38s...)

Me too! Two of my favorite GECs, too.

Here's a photo I took of mine when I noticed the symmetry-in-reverse.

Got my first #92 (purchased off the exchange) in the mail today. Having seen a few just like this one on the exchange before, and always at a very reasonable price (as this one was), I'm guessing this Goldenrod jigged bone wasn't particularly popular. I suppose I can see why, although I'm quite happy with it.

I think this pattern looks great with a spearpoint. I've been keeping my eyes open for this same knife (or a two-blade) in Ebony, but this one will certainly suffice for now. :D

Wow if that particular version of a 92 wasn't popular I'd gladly take one off someone's hand's lol. Beautiful knife Barrett. :D

 :D

Also, those are gorgeous knives. Matching acorn shields and lined bolsters; horse on one, squirrels on the other for the whole animal theme.... perfect. :)

Mailman arrived today, just thought I'd show these off.

These are three very different knives - but the one that I keep picking up and admiring is the yellow rose #74 - even though its a second (probably due to too many inclusions in the bone). The clip point really sings on this knife in hand, and when the knife is open, it complements the plainer handle well.

The whittler is nice but I think the two pen blades are too thin for the size of knife they are in - they bend laterally as they open, due to the amount of stock hat's been removed to stop them rubbing. I'm not convinced there is enough width in the frame for them, given they have had to be ground so thin, and would have preferred slightly more blade stock. I don't have another small whittler to compare them to to see what a thicker knife might look like. Otherwise, it a nice lightweight knife that I am likely to keep.

Am I the only one that wants to see a 3ish inch scout knife from GEC? Something with a bottle opener, spear main, punch and maybe a coping blade with a bail... something based on the 2016 BF knife pattern would be my hope.

You are not the only one wanting them to make a scout. I think there needs to be a demonstrated (committed?) demand for GEC to do it. I get the impression they would be very labor intensive (ie. costly) to produce.

Would all the folks that want a GEC scout be willing to pay +$150? GEC is not going to be willing to "roll the dice" as long as the demand for single blade knives continues to exceed their production capacity.

Right. But to be fair, wasn't this already made on the massive 98 pattern? I tend to think that if they were able to sell the 98, they'd be able to sell a more popularly sized version.

I'm pretty sure I read that the #98 was very hard to produce. They are hesitant to go through that again

Some of what I said it my opinion, some was based on my memory of what I read. I'm sure one of our forum dealers will be along eventually to give us information based on first hand knowledge.

By me throwing out a theory, someone that knows better will feel obliged to correct it ;)
