Lets talk GEC!

I just think we need more 98 camp knives. The cattle and Whittler are nice but i still need a camp knife.

I'm pretty sure I read that the #98 was very hard to produce. They are hesitant to go through that again

Some of what I said it my opinion, some was based on my memory of what I read. I'm sure one of our forum dealers will be along eventually to give us information based on first hand knowledge.

By me throwing out a theory, someone that knows better will feel obliged to correct it ;)

I recall the same and maybe something along the lines of unlikely they will make more - ever. If you follow the normal GEC process this means they will be on the next updated production schedule :)

Well if that's the case, then that makes sense. I wonder why that would be harder to make than, say, a 4 blade congress.

I didn't really understand it myself. I also thought to myself, lessons learned making the #98 would make a scout production easier.

If I recall correctly, the discussion I am referring to took place around the time the forum knife was being discussed, as that #35 frame would be ideal for the scout knife.

A few of us have been asking for this. Would be nice on the right knife for sure.

I don't have any knives with tip bolsters, but whenever I see them, they just look so classy. A little equal-end penknife with tip bolsters and maybe ebony covers from GEC would be pretty sweet.

Unless you can find one on the secondary market and have a couple hundred dollars to spare, prepare for a long wait.

Yeah They don't come up often but the cattle and Whittler are available. I'll just have to keep using my cattle until a camp pops up at a decent price.

Next run of esquires would be sweet to see them on. Same blades or switch it up to a wharnie, pen combo. That would be a nice little knife

I would love to see a 3 1/8" (or similar size) 3 blade and nail file pearl pen knife. Very underrated patterns IMO.

If they made a 3.25 sleeve board frame and made a split whittler with tip bolsters and a nail file blade, I do believe that would sell out immediately. They could even do a small stockman setup on the same frame as well with regular size bolsters and that would be a huge hit imho

They'd probably have a high number of warranty repairs on knives with tip bolsters. Unlike the reinforced pivot on sodbusters and most shadow patterns, knives with tip bolsters just have a pin going through the joint and they tend to loosen up more easily than other knives.

Had a question and didn't want to start a new thread about it...

I've just started to get bit by the traditional bug about a year ago so I'm still not up to speed on some of this stuff.

My question is...

I know that a lot of GEC patterns are extremely hard to find other than on the secondary market once the initial runs sell out. But it seems like almost all of the distributors have the exact same GEC knives new in stock. Are these patterns (or certain versions of) just not very sought after ones?

For example I see almost every distributor has various new #14's, John Chapman's, #15 Navy's, and #18 beagles etc in stock.

Just curious!

Ok, so, today is my birthday and I need to make a wish. GEC please make a 66 slim with full clip(muskrat is still ok) and the sheepsfoot stockman secondary! Natural canvas micarta with the same finish as the #18 sfo(just use a special shield, no cloud). Ok, had to make sure my wish counted for something I REALLY want :D

Most knives still at dealers are recent releases or old stock of not the most popular knife. Word of advice: today's past over GEC's usually turn into desired ones down the road ;)

Happy birthday! That's a good knife wish, sounds like a schrade 93OT.

Does anyone foresee GEC ever making knives with tip bolsters?

Probably not, but they should dare to!

The 33 Conductor is a very attractive pattern but I've always felt it has over-large bolsters for its size. So, were that to sport Tip bolsters you'd have a really elegant knife. My Old Rem Sleeveboard from the 1920s has seen a lot of use but it has held up fine, Tip Bolsters are for smaller or Gents types of knife after all not hulking workers.
