Lets talk GEC!

Is the etch in the website pic the etch they use on satin blades? I'm thinking it is for some reason.

Mike, I was referring to my inability to react when knives come up for sale overnight, Australia time.

Not sure how that turned into a threat from you to do your competition out of business? Seems a bit untidy.
We are sympathetic, just not sympathetic enough to break federal laws. But we have recommended solutions that would actually save most international buyers money.
I guess we could turn whistleblower and get all the other guys a few thousand dollars in fines (and eliminate their ability to ship internationally) - but that isn't the way we roll.

Nice score Alan, and gratifying to see a knife that you can get as opposed to the one that's vanished before it's even made..;)

These are a nice slim knife and I'm glad I got the Bocote, I was against this pattern at first but I'm glad i was wrong. A Stag in this could be a nice choice too, if it's not too bulbous.:)

Typically if a dealer asks for an SFO, the factory will fill in with something that won't compete directly with it. For example, if a dealers asked for a run of Northfield #54's, the factory will also make Tidioute models so the economy of scale can ease the production cost a bit. So in most cases it is not like an SFO was given to one dealer, it is more likely that dealer asked for an SFO and the factory added some production numbers to it that would not directly compete with it. From the other side of the isle though, it would be much more beneficial to the SFO if there was nothing whatsoever ran in that model alongside to compete with it.

For example, it is no advantage to me if #77 American Jack knives run with the #77 Barlow. But I understand why the factory does it. It takes time and money to setup for a pattern; and it would be beneficial if they didn't have to tear back down after 500 knives.

2016 Production Totals now up on GEC.

Thanks for the heads up Tim. I've been curious about the totals for the 14's. I expected them to be high but had no idea there were even more Crown Lifters and Beer Scouts made. They really ramped it up on those.

Wait a minute, what happened to the comment that there would be at least one more NF #25 SFO? LOL

At this point most dealers that offer SFO's are in the US. And of those dealers nearly all post their drops or reservations during business hours (US). For future reference is there a good time range that would work for the U.S. and Australian base equally well?

yes - a pre-SFO warning - now hear this, don't go to sleep, don't run errands, stand by etc...This approach would work equally well for the entire world. LOL

Your right, I noticed that the production totals were a lot higher for most Non-SFO's then in past years. That would seem to be a good thing. GEC seems to be trying to meet a higher demand. They put out a lot of knives last year from what I can tell.

I love GEC's 25. I am getting one of each. The stag option sounded most intriguing, but all of the options are great.

Not what it said... I have read on fb about another SFO, but I didn't put the "NF" on it. But then I thunk about it and decided I shouldn't make a comment on something that I have no specific knowledge of (not that it has stopped me in the past).

I am rather stunned that I managed to squeak a reservation in, I am usually not so fortunate with high demand patterns. Hence my concerns over this years forum knife... I got the text notification, waited a few minutes while I wrapped up some code I was working on and then checked in. Not entirely sold, I returned to my project and checked back a little while later and discovered everything to be in the yellow.

I then promptly reserved one in red sawcut. Checking back shortly after revealed that everything was locked... I love the opportunity to get a Barlow of sorts, though it might prove small for me, we shall see. My wife is on standby in that event. ;)

I have been quite happy with CK's Early Reserve system, I have received notifications for every opportunity since signing up. Since I do not have the desire to chase down hot limited runs, this system works very well and gives me opportunities I otherwise would not have. Thanks Mr. Latham!

right - many dealers had the #54 SFO, not one dealer in this instance

I can't see the future, but I would guess there will be dealers with Tidioute SFO's. Who knows..

The only dealer that was able to get the 54 Northfield SFO was DLT. A post was made from a dealer specifically saying he was unable to have his 54 SFO in the NF line because DLT already claimed it. My guess is it was CK turn to claim a NF SFO and everybody else has the option to run Tidioute SFO's. I really have no idea. That's why we have internet forums....To share our thoughts about things we have no idea about ;)

2000 people trying to reserve the same knife at the exact same time seems bad... I vote don't change it (even though I missed out on one).

Well, don't change it unless rdave and cbr1000 get priority reservation status :)

^^This. Demand is going to be high for many patterns no matter how you set things up. Having a system that notifies you and let's you only put in for one of each cover material seems pretty fair, although I do sympathize with those in wildly different time zones. If GEC's were available to buy anywhere at anytime it would take some of the magic away from scoring those treasured patterns.

Mike your system is perfect and the best of all the dealers. There will always be someone that feels left out because of work schedule, time zone, death in the family, no cell signal.

If they don't get one from you there are other dealers with long bolstered and short bolstered versions available. If there is that doesn't work then there's secondary and if that doesn't work your out of luck. There is always the tc forum knife the tc knife and the northfield barlow all likely later this year.

I don't get all the knives I want but life isn't fair so why should knife buying be.

Keep up the good work Mike.

I don't see the benefit to the general public for these early order options. It has to be a great thing for the dealers. They get to sell a product prior to it even being made, without setting a price until after completion of the product. This is not how I wish do do my shopping and if it means I miss out, so be it.
