Lets talk GEC!

Yes I did. Couldn't resist it either. It has always been on my list. I got the canvas as well. I did not mind having to buy the sheath because it seems to be high quality and well designed. The natural canvas micarta looks to be one of the best looking mudbugs. It seems like it is the kind of knife that will be useful in many ways. I would prefer stainless on this knife though.

Yeah, I eyed it up last year and missed out, didn't want to do the same this year. Everything I have read says that this is a nice model and I agree on the sheath, looks useful and of good quality. I also agree on the stainless, but, 1095 does take a nice edge and ren wax helps to fight rust.

Same dealer blog that posted the tentative production quantity of 78's posted today some SFO's were cancelled... and I'm done conveying what I see online about GEC production. It changes so much that I don't know if it's very helpful to anyone.

On a side note, in my opinion, some of the navy knives were under appreciated. Charlie's SFO navy knive with the rope bolster and lanyard is an awesome knife - besides the rope bolster, it has the best jigged bone I personally have seen from GEC. I liked the micarta stainless navy knife without the lanyard hole too. I understand why people don't care for them. Seemed like the production volume was high, blade shape weird to some, and had a bale... on the plus side they were readily available at the time, you don't have to worry about sticking any body with the point if you are using it on a boat, and also don't have to worry as much about breaking off the tip.

Beautiful Navy!

Calf Pen Jack! Calf Pen Jack! Which scale material will come first I wonder?!?

Aren't these things gonna be great? I just hope the price point is where F&F ought to be so I can get a few! This is likely a pattern that won't be run again for a while.

I just saw one listed on a dealer's page. Looks like his own pics and not stock photos. Reasonably priced for a 2 blade knife I suppose.

I found one listed and I agree, about the same as a 2 blade Hay'n Helper.

I think I'm gonna shoot for the black and the Nifebrite at first, leave the green and orange for later perhaps!

Varying setups were not offered. I have put my 100 in the build, but have not finalized my slabs yet. I guess all others will announce theirs as they see fit.

Maybe some polished stag if any of the culled pairs are still available. It looked great on the 25s and would make for some handsome jack knives.

I was skeptical when I saw the preview drawing of the Calf Pen Jack, but decided I'd wait until I saw the actual knives and see how I felt about them. I'm still skeptical, leaning towards "I don't get it." I don't think this one will be for me. More for those who appreciate them (though hopefully not too many more, that end up sitting on dealers' shelves).

I don't expect folks pockets are as fragile as some think; but this is a bit off the beaten path and the price came in a bit north of what I would expect a F&F.

The Calf Pen (awesome as I believe it is going to be) would really be a runaway hit with a clip/sheepfoot combo.

Thanks for the pics, Barrett, I can't wait!

Yup I am skipping this one too. The price is the main factor, I was very keen on the idea up till then.

OK, having stared at the photos of the finished product for a while, I will certainly admit that the C.P. Jack looks...weird. But I can see the method in the madness.

It's almost as tho a customer called GEC and said "Look, I need a knife with a pointy blade that I don't have to worry about closing on my fingers when I need to stab stuff and make aggressive cuts, it needs to have a screwdriver I don't have to fumble with, a way to fish it out of my pocket easily, and if I could open a blade with one hand, that would be great as well! I would like it to be as affordable as GEC gets too!"

I would love to hear the inside story on the creation of this knife, for sure.

I think the only thing that I find "off" about the Calf Pen is the lack of bolsters. Equal end patterns without at least one bolster look wonky to me.
