Lets talk GEC!

85 liner-lock and friends. The liner-lock's function is to lock the knife in addition to the backspring. The Houndstooth 55 came with this as well, as do Queen's Teardrops in D2- a fine combination .

Get needs a store in Australia, or at least an official dealer.
The 35 looks interesting but I agree it seems a little to unfriendly in the pocket to be a comfortable edc.

Woooeee! Calf Pen in nifebrite on the cover today!

I'm gonna get one, and another in black (maybe) I just haven't decided which to EDC. Going to have to keep the etch nice on at least one, but I will certainly be carrying one to try it out. I hope my poor pocket can take it!

I think there is an official dealer in Oz on GEC s website.
Unlikely to be anywhere nearby though unless you live in the same town.
So youd still be buying off the net basically and theres no real difference between Aus web store or anywhere else. Theyve already factored in the freight charges on to the price.
At the Sydney Knife Show a couple of months ago I saw a lot of dealer stalls. Only one had GEC and only 3 knives?!.They looked lonely.
It was disappointing. Mind you the show is geared to knifemakers and there were some absolute works of art. Followed by tactical and modern hunting knives. Knifemaking supplies and sharpening stuff.
Ive acquired all my GECand Case from dealers in the USA and never had a problem.
I did visit the town of Boorawa in regional NSW earlier this year.I had to go to an engineering place to pick up a rugby tackling machine.Nearby was a serious outdoors hunting camping 4wd outlet. They had a cabinet with a few knives and I saw a nice red bone Bear and Sons stockman.I bought it mainly because I was so surprised to see a non Chinese or Brazilian product in a knife display cabinet.Nice little knife too.
Cheers.

Meako is right - I don't think it works with the low production numbers and the bad exchange rate. There is no incentive for GEC to sell their products at a more competitive price in a foreign country if they are comfortably selling everything they produce in the USA.

Lets not talk purchasing though...

I'm dying to see them start the Churchill!! I guess that there are 2 more Calf Pens to go, black and orange. I saw that they started the orange, but, never saw completed pics.

I'm not as excited about the 35 because I have the Drover/Harness Jack from last year. This years 35 run should be a great EDC for those looking for a slim package. I'm super interested in the Yankee Whittler coming from M&G. I really like their design choices. The 54 Kansas Cane Cutter was the best out of the 54's (for me). Can't help to wonder if the Whittler will be run on the 81 frame. I wouldn't think so, but wondering...

I have to agree with you on the M&G Kansas Kane Kutter, I have an ebony and it is a very handsome knife. An 81 whittler with M&Gs aesthetics is very interesting, does GEC put out info on the upcoming M&G knives? Where would one keep up to date? I see that GEC put out a three blade 81, they called it a stock knife, what would be the difference between a whittler and a stock knife, the blades?

"Premium stock knife" is a term of art that's over 100 years old. In contrast, "whittler" is a modern collector term. Whittler was never a particular pattern. A whittler is best described by the blades and construction. A whittler can have a wide variety of handles whereas a stock knife always has a serpentine handle. On a whittler, the main blade rides on both springs and the secondaries each have a separate spring.

Um, what? Where can I get the info?

And that's a gorgeous knife.

Edit: Looking around at old M&G ads, I bet it'll be based on the 78.

Is this in reference to a 3 spring, 3 blade jack with a spear, clip and pen blade?

If so - I'm out. 3 blades and not one has a straight edge.

Yup, that's the one.

I understand your apprehension, but it looks like my kind of weird, so I'd have to get one.

I definitely appreciate it's uniqueness, but it's just not for me - unless maybe it ends up with handles I can't get over. Who knows, maybe they won't follow the old model exactly, and will throw a different blade in it.

Either way, if it comes to fruition, it does seem like it increases the odds ever so slightly that maybe some 78s could end up with a clip.

That's a good point.

How do we know about this upcoming M&H knife anyway? I can't find any information on it.
