Lets talk GEC!

Diff'rent strokes and all that. I bought a 2nd goldenrod Wharnie. I knew something lustful might soon come down the pike but I couldn't help myself. Had to own a 2nd one. No regrets.

I think out of the 92 bunch the ebony looks the best imo.

The Spear blade on the 92 Talons looks different from my 92 Ureka Jack's spear blade (more point, less belly). Does anyone have a side-by-side pic ?

I own a Ebony Eureka Jack and noticed the same thing. Per a reply on their Facebook page they modified the spearpoint on the Talon to be a little pointier. They also added a shield on the Ebony #92 Talon compared to the Ebony #92 Eureka Jack.

Is there a difference (other than cover choices, etc.) between this #66 "Calf Roper Jack" and the earlier #66 "Serpentine Jack," or is it all in the name?

I was wondering the same thing. As far as my eyes can see, it's exactly the same knife...maybe they just decided to rename it :)

^^^ Yeah....what he said^^^ I can not see any difference in shape to the #66 ebony that I have. The "slim" in purple is featured today.

I don't get the reason behind renaming it. That would be like Case calling their Small Texas Jack a "Medium Stockman Jack". I thought the whole idea behind the name "Calf Roper" was to evoke a smaller cattle knife pattern, which the first Calf Ropers were - 3 blade stock knives.

Should still be called "Serpentine Jack" in my estimation.

I like all of the new #92 talons I've seen. I have the green micarta out for delivery today but the day after I ordered I saw the Northfield versions that look great as well.

Jeff, those are great pictures of your 55! Hardly a day goes by when I don't use this one. It is a very handy feed bag/mulch bag/manure bag/cardboard/clamshell/rope/hose cutter and it makes quick work of scoring catfish to be fried whole (which is the only way I do it :) ). It's also just the right size... fits perfectly in bluejeans watchpocket and is a beauty to boot.

Sigh... Another order placed with KSF. One #92 (spearpoint, green micarta), and one 09 in calico bone. This thread is proving to be expensive... ;)

Does anyone have a #55 and #92 wharncliffe? I'd love to see those two side by side. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Al. Good to see a fellow 55 user and your list of tasks seems taylor made for the little wharnie, enjoy :)

Thanks Gev, glad you loved it. I had fun looking back at all my pics, its a great knife and a constant companion.

Some days I wish mine was just a slippie like Al's but most of the time I don't mind the ll. Its placed perfectly and well executed! Lately I have been enjoying the bigger handle of the Viper but its not a must for me, the 55 is comfortable for most tasks. I am hoping the Talon is right in the middle of the two and also like that it looks pinchable much like the Viper, a feature I have come to enjoy with my 47. The Northfield swedge looks amazing and the nick being before it just looks better then the Houndstooth, slowly getting beat down by the Talon :)

Jeff, the 55 (I have the Tidioute) is a great knife in the hand, many thanks for your first-rate pictures of your 'Hound'. They need to issue a Barehead version in my view...

alwayscarry, thanks too for your Talon shot, I have the same one en route and really glad I opted for the micarta. The wait for it to arrive here in Europe is a stressful time, the postman is under surveillance...:D:cool:

Regards, Will

Thanks Will and I agree wholeheartedly on the bare end. Mate it with some ebony or blackwood and the houndstooth shield, boy that would be nice :)

Speaking of nice! I may not be a pen blade fan but I might have to get one like this. I love the tidioute shield and that bone is perfect

really like the shape of the blade

I'm holding out for a #74 with a spey and wharncliffe combo
