Lets talk GEC!

I believe the other cover option was Desert Ironwood.

I am kind of regretting not putting in a reservation for the Muscle Bone. Mostly because of the announced shield choice... I love the bomb shield and I feel it is what really dressed up and endeared the recent run of Mustard Bone 56s to me. A large Bomb shield on the Muscle Bone is going to look exceptional.

I have one in the Ironwood reserved and I am grateful that they didn't go with the overused hotdog shield for it. I think the simple bar shield will look quite handsome.

My mistake. Got the covers confused with my pick for the #44. I honestly don't know if I am getting bone or ironwood. I think I just get to pick from what is left when they get to my spot on what I think is a very short list

It's interesting to me (at least from what I see) that it seems that they are working on many patterns at the same time, and they seem to be progressing the same. In the past the pictures only seemed to convey a pattern at a time with the next pattern starting towards the tail end of the previous one. The production quantities are up as well. Wonder if they have increased there work force. Just wondering.
I wondered myself whether some of the former Queen employees might land at GEC. Might explain increased production (if that is the case).

It disgusts me how more and more dealers are going to early reserve type systems to sell GEC knives. These knives have no problem selling themselves. the only reason to do this is greed. I can see how a dealer would like to have its products sold before the product is made, but a buyer? Why in the world would anyone wish to be financially obligated to purchase a product through this system? Especially when the buyer hasn't even been told how much the product is that they are obligating themselves to. I know supply and demand can be skewed on some patterns but using this system is just reckless. I see nothing positive to the knife community through its use.
I refused to use these systems or buy GEC knives from distributors so greedy they think it is okay to sell in this manner.

Edit: If this needs to be moved could a mod please do so. I however feel it appropriate here.

I don't think you have done much investigation nor contemplation on why someone would use such a system. I guess I was the first to implement it in a formal fashion and my sole purpose was to give me some indications as what items to order more/less of to accommodate my customers. If GEC decides to let me turn in open orders on a run and I order more ebony because that is my guess at the popular variant and then everyone actually wants antique yellow - who wins in that scenario? I will sell the ebony over time, but many people will not be getting their first choice. I don't like the idea of being financially obligated either, that is why our system requires no deposit and just offers a human element of communication any time someone has to pass on something. The reasons and the analytics are complicated, but we are not going to resolve that here.

I went for the Desert Ironwood over the Muscle Bone as well. The "Large Bomb Shield" does sound intriguing, but I can't imagine needing more than one of these behemoths (honestly, I only reserved one out of sheer curiosity, to be able experience the thing in person). I am also glad to see they're doing a bar shield on the Ironwood.

I have a very different take on early reserve systems. I have multiple items on early reserve right now with two different dealers.

I am thankful that I can make a reservation and have a really good chance of getting the knife I want.

What I can't stand is when a certain brand and model goes on sale online and/or by phone at "2 p.m. Central Time" and it's "first come, first serve" and they're sold out in 45 minutes - while I'm stuck in a meeting at work from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

I hope the dealers who have my order on reserve will accept my sincere appreciation.

Exactly.

Really excited for this run of Whalers, they are a knife that I thought I would have zero interest in until I actually got to hold one, then I understood. Just a great big hunk of a knife that brings a great big grin to my face very time I handle one.
The muscle bone from the 2016 Rendezvous is good looking bone, I'm wondering if this run it will look the same as the pictures GEC has of the slabs make it look more brown than white but hard to say until it is finished, should look great with a shield which they did not use on the Rendezvous Lumberjacks.

Well I think the Rendezvous lumberjack was "Pioneer Muscle Bone". I don't know what adding or subtracting the "pioneer" does to the bone, if anything.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Super psyched for the up coming 15s, hope Charlie's is single blade long pull with end cap. Why not, I hope they all have end caps. My wallet is ready! :):D

Am I the only one that thinks a main clip blade on the whaler or lumberjack would look awesome? Crazy but awesome.

Yes, you are the ONLY one!

< just kidding >

Personally, a clip blade on the Whalers wouldn't work for me, but different strokes!

As long as it's pinchable, I'd love it. By the way, my #45 has a very strong pull. I wonder if the Whalers will follow the current trend and have lighter pulls? I'd welcome a slightly lighter pull than the one on my Lumberjack.
