Lets talk GEC!

It's not like that, it is a slipjoint. The linerlock is a safety feature to stop accidental closure on fingers.

Paul already answered your question perfectly but ill elaborate a bit :). I feel these traditional liner locks are far more safe for daily use then a modern liner lock. The knife is already kept open by the backspring and I for one don't have a problem with my slipjoints closing on my fingers in the first place ;). The ll is basically another liner added to the knife and its cut and tensioned to slide over the blade tang when you open it, like so...

If you push down on the blade with the lock engaged it will move slightly. You really have to want to move it to get any play in it. I have full confidence the knife will never close on me when I use it. GEC placed the tab perfectly and I don't feel it in use, it disappears in hand until its needed. Great knife and if you search my name or for the houndstooth you will find tons of posts about my experiences with it, highly recommended.

For those that feel the #71 is too small but still want a Sodbuster, GEC is making a #23 Pioneer-sized one called the #21.

Neat, wonder if it will also be O1. Also gonna need it in natural canvas. Paging Mike Latham...

Thank you both. I only ask because I didn't know if it was intended to interface directly with the blade tang or not. I have a few Schrade OT models (with linerlocks) that obviously have seen better days because the liner doesn't even come within 1mm of the tang. I was just asking if this was common among slipjoints with linerlocks or if my examples are just worn out. I really like the #55 pattern, but could care less about the liner. I have plenty of knives with locks if that was what I really was shooting for.

Can I get some feedback on the '11 made #61 4blade congress model? Derrick over at KSF writes that they have a softer spring. I'm looking for a normal tension like the #15. Any issues with these? Have they bladerub?

The softer spring is kind of negated by the wharncliffe blade. I have no trouble with my 613208 because the sheepsfoot is pinchable. The wharnie version is much more sleek to the handle.

Paul

Edit: I have to say, thinking about it that I didn't think that they made any 4 blade versions of either the 61 or the 62. I'll be happy to be corrected though..

I hope its ok to post a link to KSF.

Is the walk and talk nice and smooth?

I had been asked that a few day ago and called the factory to confirm. Response was affirmative and I updated my Early Reserve schedule.

Arrived today. For some reason, its ebony brother is not arriving until tomorrow, even though they both shipped at the same time...

Fantastic looking! Thanks for showing this one. The acrylic is really suitable for such a sleek pattern, fine shield too and this is 'just' the Tidioute.

Makes me very glad I ordered one and a Rust Red Sawn Bone too  The delivery wait to Europe is oppressive though....

GEC didn't provide too many pictures of the Grey Pearl but they came out real nice!! Also, my Gabon Ebony Slim Jack came with jet black ebony

Yep, they made 4 blade models. The regular 4 blade ones aren't quite as interesting to me as one like this... It has a larger spear in stead of one of the pen blades. I just haven't pulled the trigger on one though as I really like the 2 blade models.

Sorry buddy, should have read:
"I didn't think they made any four blade #61 models in 2011".
I'm a big fan of all congress patterns and especially the GEC #61 frame which is a personal favourite of mine, if I could only afford to buy more :)

Well, online tracking told me the ebony arrived a few hours after the grey pearl, so I went to the post office to pick it up.
I am, to say the least, pleased. Hard to tell if I prefer this to the 68 White Owl yet. They are very close. But the ebony on this one is blacker than my Owl. I love how dark it is.
Kudos, GEC.
