Lets talk GEC!

So, I have seen a few of the dealers have the #15 Bail & Chain. The knives look nice but it is a $30 increase in price over the knife without chain. I am failing to see how adding the chain increases the price $30.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me.

Although we aren't really supposed to discuss price, I was also pretty shocked by this, as I expected them to be more like 10 or 15 bucks more.

Still have one on order. :)

Extra money to become a member of a chain-gang?:D:D

I'll certainly pass on that one.

However, GEC are so elevated as to have become god-like  Here's my Forum 14 Stag knife with the Ancient Egyptian Cat Goddess, Bast. An honour!

GEC seems to be on a road of steady increases in their prices. I understand rising cost of materials, labor, etc. but it won't be long before I stop buying GEC knives. GEC could fail tomorrow and I wouldn't miss them.

The chain and fittings are all custom made for the knife and are nickel plated which accounts for the price. That said, I was a bit taken aback at the price increase over the non-chain version as well. I guess the plain models are quite a bargain!

Yup, some serious GEC haters. I feel like the prices I have payed for my GEC made knives have been pretty fair....consider the recent #43s I thought they were a great deal for a very large folding knife made in the U.S.

Who is a GEC hater? Name them.

At $60 these knives are nothing short of a BARGAIN!!

The last sentence is just mean and bitter. What good could come from saying that?

If they failed tomorrow you wouldn't miss them....sounds kinda hateful, at the least mean spirited.

But it's your choice on where you spend your money and how you voice your opinion.

Back to the knives, I can't wait to see these #44's!

The chain and bail are very nice quality and it's well worth the price IMHO :)

Yep, the plain models are a great value for the $$$ :D

With the nickel plating I can understand that price .I guessed they would Carbon steel as I have seen a lot of rusty chains on the antique boys knives.

Oh Boo Hoo !! There's nothing mean about saying I wouldn't miss a company that went out of business because of artificially inflated prices. I did say I would stop buying them in the future if their prices keep going up. The reason is that I can buy knives that are comparable to GEC for cheaper prices. That said, if something from GEC comes along that catches my eye at a decent price I'll most likely buy it.

That chain and fastener isn't worth twenty-bucks - my 2¢

Please PM me with the company that is making U.S. made traditional folding knives at GEC prices (dealer prices not secondary market), in small runs.

Small runs - that's part of the problem with GEC. Those small runs and the reserve system used by some dealers are artificially inflating the prices of GEC knives.

I didn't say I hoped GEC would go out of business (I hope they don't) but if they do, I won't miss them.

When you get this frustrated with a hobby then it is time to move on because it can’t be fun for you anymore.

I suggest taking a break from GEC.

What I enjoy about GEC is they offer quality knives that take us all back in time.

My two cents.

That is GECs business model. They don't have huge runs of a single knife. They have large runs of the same pattern of knives in different trims and covers to keep collectors interest peaked at all times. Look at the 15's. Tons of cover options, different trims and blade shapes.
