Although we aren't really supposed to discuss price, I was also pretty shocked by this, as I expected them to be more like 10 or 15 bucks more. So, I have seen a few of the dealers have the #15 Bail & Chain. The knives look nice but it is a $30 increase in price over the knife without chain. I am failing to see how adding the chain increases the price $30.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me.
GEC seems to be on a road of steady increases in their prices. I understand rising cost of materials, labor, etc. but it won't be long before I stop buying GEC knives. GEC could fail tomorrow and I wouldn't miss them.
More for the rest of us then.
Yup, some serious GEC haters. I feel like the prices I have payed for my GEC made knives have been pretty fair....consider the recent #43s I thought they were a great deal for a very large folding knife made in the U.S.
At $60 these knives are nothing short of a BARGAIN!!GEC seems to be on a road of steady increases in their prices. I understand rising cost of materials, labor, etc. but it won't be long before I stop buying GEC knives. GEC could fail tomorrow and I wouldn't miss them.
The chain and fittings are all custom made for the knife and are nickel plated which accounts for the price. That said, I was a bit taken aback at the price increase over the non-chain version as well. I guess the plain models are quite a bargain!
If they failed tomorrow you wouldn't miss them....sounds kinda hateful, at the least mean spirited.
But it's your choice on where you spend your money and how you voice your opinion.
Back to the knives, I can't wait to see these #44's!
Please PM me with the company that is making U.S. made traditional folding knives at GEC prices (dealer prices not secondary market), in small runs.Oh Boo Hoo !! There's nothing mean about saying I wouldn't miss a company that went out of business because of artificially inflated prices. I did say I would stop buying them in the future if their prices keep going up. The reason is that I can buy knives that are comparable to GEC for cheaper prices. That said, if something from GEC comes along that catches my eye at a decent price I'll most likely buy it.
That chain and fastener isn't worth twenty-bucks - my 2¢
Really cool to see that feature on such a old knife. Definitely debunks the rumor that it was a mistake on the recent run.I agree Mark... Big Time Bargain!
I like the the long pull on these. Below it is an old Winchester from the 1920s/30s with same type pull.
