Lets talk GEC!

I wonder why the 99s have not hit the distributors yet?

I doubt they are even in tubes yet. Last production photos show the 99's in the cleaning phase. Plus there are still some more Cripple Creek #14s to finish up and get shipped out first. My guess is they might start shipping to dealers next week.

I stand corrected these are probably tubed up and shipping out today or tomorrow.

When did the information that GEC would not be giving any factory tours until further notice go up on their website?

Still no word on why they stopped the factory tours? I was hoping that someone would have some info on this. I wasn't quite planning the 2-week family road trip from Texas to PA yet, but I was thinking about planning it someday...

Hi Lee.

I'm hoping that it's due to the installation of upgraded equipment that can handle a wider variety of steels but I'm only dreaming. That can be a pretty big project depending on the size and weight of the machinery.

I'm sure Christine would be happy to provide the details should you care to give her a call:

I must be in the minority. I love the shield, plus the blotchy rotten banana covers. Good thing mine’s reserved.

I’m with you. I jumped on changing my reservation on the Churchill when the banana shield was unveiled. If I was only buying one GEC, I’d prefer it to have a normal/traditionally attractive shield like the bomb shield. But let’s get real, all of us probably have a whole knife drawer filled with normal shields, and variety is the spice of life.

A non knife knut would be completely confused by that statement.o_O Not something one would say everyday.:)

Hahaha. I re-read that post, and you’re absolutely right.

Random question...but do all 440C SS GEC knives have the acorn shield? (thinking about including shield as an attribute for my database)

I don't think it's "all," but I think it's fair to say "almost all."
There's the dog paw, for example, which was an SFO, I believe. But....virtually all I've seen produced have the acorn.

I picked up a Bull Buster off the Exchange some time ago. It is a fine knife, I like it a lot. An excellent, all around working knife. I would be more interested in the Mudbugs (due to the lock back) but they insist on selling it with the leather sheath which, albeit nice, I still have no use for.

I bought a Mudbug a couple years ago (at that time they didn't include the sheath). It was a nice knife, but mine had a combination of two issues that led me to pass it along: the tip of the blade sat a bit proud of the liners, and the edge also hit the backspring if you let it close on it's own, so you couldn't really lower the kick to fix the proud tip without first sharpening away quite a bit of metal.
