Lets talk GEC!

Furthermore, these sure do look like a rotten banana!

I like the Tiger Maple and the RBB looked excellent in the initial stages but it's wrecked in my view by the puerile shield :thumbsdown:
Okay, "Puerile." I read that as a different word at first. ;)

I enjoy a little whimsy, but I do think the banana shield looked better on the bright yellow Churchill. I'm kinda kicking myself for not getting one, but I hardly ever can buy more than one of a new knife, so I went with the classic ebony.

The banana shield just looks ridiculous, and the above examples of the RBB (while they will look better polished) are not handsome in the least. Would be better described as "candy yellow appalossa."

I do love the big ol' fat spear blade though!

I will say that the swedge does improve the appearance of the blade but I'd still prefer a clip or even a sheepfoot.

In my opinion, the beauty of GEC and traditional knives is that there is a little something for everyone. While I may not add a RBB to my collection, I can appreciate that there are folks out there who will. I am really glad actually that I don't like every single knife they produce...I would be broke and unmarried likely :)

I've avoided the 85s in the past solely because I didn't like the leaf spear shape, but I've gotten over that (too late I'm afraid). While I'm a sheepfoot super fan, and prefer clips over spears in general, aesthetically speaking, I don't think any other blade would look as good with this pattern.

I'm not keen on the banana shield either. It's just not my thing. However, I appreciate the novelty and whimsy of it, and I like that it's only on one handle option.

waverave waverave - I couldn't agree with your sentiments more. I'm glad that I don't like all of them, and that not everyone likes my favorites.

I don’t care for the banana shield on the 85, but I thought it looked good on the 35.

However, I think the RBB on thes 85’s looks great.

I totally agree with everyone that it truly is a good thing we don’t like every knife GEC makes. My wife would have me in therapy. Lol.

Maybe 50 years from now, some guy or gal will discover one of these banana shield knives and have it spark an interest in traditional pocket knives.

On a side note, I really like the acrylic covers and I am hoping GEC will bring back some more of older options.
