Lets talk GEC!

My plan is to take a buying break till the 29’s come along. A couple of those 85’s would have changed that if it were not for that EZ open notch.

I think some have it and some don't

Edit: looks like the tidioutes don't have the EO notch but the CK SFO Northfields have it

But they don't actually have the LOOK of those Northfields either ;)

Some great choices for the discerning in all guises:thumbsup:

The 85’s with covers that got my attention all have the notch. Just as well so I can give my wallet a rest. I’ve got a couple knives with an ez open and it’s never in the right spot to fit my hand comfortably. Always seems to have my hand just a bit too far back if I put my ring finger in it, and on the blade if I put my pinky in. I understand them on some knives, although I’d still prefer them without. But some knives it doesn’t even really make sense as they blade is already super pinchable? Northwoods Broadway and Michigan for example. The notch is really the only reason I don’t carry them much.

I'm loving this round of polished stag 85s:

I believe the Case 047 must be the inspiration for the GEC Dixie 82. The Dixie will look even sleeker without the Sheepsfoot blade. I am in for both the two and three blade versions, jigged bone of course. Copperhead and Elderberry with a Muskrat Clip main! It is hard to imagine better knives!

The colors sound great, and indeed it is hard to imagine better knives but unfortunately its another case of so close but so far due to tyre-tread jigging.:(

I don’t know why GEC goes to the trouble of making such beautifully dyed and finished bone handles, then giving them such an industrial style of jigging. The Case knife in your picture demonstrates how significant the jigging pattern is to the overall aesthetic of the knife.

Same reason they make banana knives. Variety is the spice of life. Different strokes and all that.

They make uniform jigging, grooved jigging, random, corn cob, peach seed, coarse grizzly cut, etc.

This 2 blade 82 is my idea of perfection! They are even putting my favorite covers on(natural micarta). The single spring opposite ended jack is my favorite style of knife. My only hope is that it has a heavy pull and if so, I'll be buying multiples.

I have already proven to myself over the years that the wharncliff blade is my absolute favorite for EDC. The muskrat clip for food prep (even gutting a trout) makes it a great companion blade. Both low riding and streamlined to a frame that's size lends itself to hard work, well, what's not to like here? :D

Cant wait for more pics.

All the Northfield 85 reserves at CK went pretty fast. I logged in as fast as I could and only got on standby for a polished stag. Mike picked some outstanding materials for those I don't even care for the 85 that much and I am super jealous :)
