Lets talk GEC!

I have had the same knife (micarta drop point) in use as a paring knife for a few weeks now. Lovely thin edge and yeah, a crazy deal of a price!

I somehow managed to miss the H20's, they look interesting :)

The forum search function isn't turning up anything on these, have they been discussed elsewhere?
Looks like a fixed blade sod buster to my eye ( the blade, that is), I could definitely see one of these in the kitchen knife drawer!

Yeah I plan on using it in the kitchen as a small paring/skinner. I have a small set of nice wusthofs for standard duty (ones my Girlfriend uses), but have been putting together a rag tag team of carbon steel kitchen knives. This one will join my R.Murphy 6" Chef, an 8" Old Hickory Butcher, my grandpa's old 8" Korium hunting knife I rehandled with a piece of stag (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...fe?highlight=grandpa's+old+hunting+knife+stag), and a carbon opinel Paring knife. The Inglourious Bastards.

I'd like to pre-order but am too afraid/paranoid that they won't be in a color I want... Probably dumb of me I know but that's the way I am. Sure would be nice if GEC would announce the bone colors along with the wood and stag choices all at once.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong with the GEC blog? Been down a couple days now.

I've noticed the same thing. Following the (broken) redirect, and poking around on their .com site, it looks like they are attempting to merge their two online sites, the .net "blog" (aka, the Real Information site, heh) and the .com (for newbies) site.

Unfortunately, the link for the redirect and also to the blog from their .com site ("Everything GEC") currently is broken.

BUT: by reformatting the broken link (with a bit o' guessing), I've come up with this one-- I believe this is their intent, newly reformatted information on their .com site:

http://www.greateasterncutlery.com/blog

(Unfortunately, links to the .net wealth of information-- especially the pictures-- are still broken.)

Ed. to add: I visit the .com site so infrequently, I guessed at a possible merge due to the .net blog's URL currently being redirected to a broken link on the .com site (still with me?!).

In poking about further, it seems my optimism regarding GEC's emplying a centralized, single site for their company may be misplaced, with the redirect looking more like a temporary attempt to point somewhere while the .net blog is down.

Carry on.

I think the server that housed the .net had problems and they tried to redirect to .com (but had a url slip up there). I don't expect they are trying to combine just yet.

Thanks. I noticed the strange url redirects myself and was wondering if it was more than a server crash. But Mike prolly has the inside info 😎

Has the idea been thrown around for a bigger barlow yet? Something like the 77 but on a 42 or 23 frame?

Northwoods did the Madison Barlow which is basically the 23 frame I believe. It was made by GEC for Derrick. I don't own one, perhaps someone who does will post a picture for you...

Here's the Northwoods Madison Barlow. 4 1/4 inches closed.

I'm looking forward to a GEC daddy barlow (We can hope :)). Kinda like the one below with and/or without locking blade:

Russell Daddy Barlow. 5 inches closed.

Yep I have one of the Northwoods barlows, I'm pretty sure that is the same size of the 42. I'm looking for something a bit different and bigger. I think the 23 frame with a big clip blade styled after the 77's and the same bolster from the 77's would be pretty awesome.
