Lets talk GEC!

Excited to see the other cover options!!

I saw the Oregon knife club is also getting a two blade #23 for 2020.

Is there a table out there floating around that lists all the GEC patterns by closed length?

Hey all - Question for the group. I'm relatively new to GEC collecting. The #62 SFO in Blue Camel Bone just came out at DLT Trading. I grabbed one even though I have a red jigged bone, which I'm fond of, just to check it out. Question: Does blue camel bone tend to be popular? I should clarify that I'm NOT looking to turn a profit - but if I don't end up wanting the knife, do you think it likely this version will sell out and I could resell on secondary market and recoup my costs? Second question - what covers tend to be the most popular? Thanks!

Blue camel bone is typically pretty popular. However, the 62 doesn't seem to be selling very quickly (by GEC Standards). I would guess you would be able to break even if you decided to sell, but I don't see the value of any 62 skyrocketing any time soon. Just my 2 cents.

GEC is making more knives in larger runs - so aside from the desirable SFOs (Waynorth comes to mind) and the REALLY popular patterns like 77s and 15s, the availability of many patterns remains fairly reasonable after a production run. Even if one misses out on the initial release, the larger numbers being made makes it to where the prices still stay fairly reasonable on the secondary market (in many, not all, cases).

The popularity of cover options is a very subjective thing. For instance, I have no liking for Blue Camel Bone. Since I have a liking for rich hues, the washed out dyes that often accompany Camel Bone options do a good job at deterring me. That said, plenty of folks really like that Blue Camel Bone and since it is usually on an SFO and made in limited numbers, its collectible nature cannot be understated.

I've developed my preferences over a couple of years now and am working on consolidating my current collection and future acquisitions accordingly. That also came from trying a little bit of everything over a period of time. I'd say, try as much you can and you will find what ends up appealing to you. Who knows, you may find that what ends up striking your fancy isn't the "popular" choice.

Ha!!... My wallet wishes I collected rocks or butterflies instead of knives!!..... But I'm an old guy having fun, so all is good.... Besides, when I kick the bucket my wife will have plenty of stuff to put in the yard sale!!

You better keep a price sheet in that collection of yours. You wouldn't want her tossing them out in the yard sale 5 bucks a pop. Although if I came across a yard sale that had gecs going for 5 or 10 bucks each it might be the best day of my life.

I have an envelope titled "When I croak open this before doing anything".... Beside my legal will I have requests and some guidance on the issues that She'll face inside the envelope... I imagine a lot of spouses get fleeced of valuables by not knowing their worth.....

If I had money to spend, that's EXACTLY what'd I'd do. Thanks for showing me my bucket list!

Thanks Dan..... I can't do physical activities anymore so it is a great low energy hobby... And it is a hobby that should realize a decent return if I should ever decide to sell out and start collecting bumper stickers instead!!....

Reminds me of the old joke you see about any collector in that you hope your wife doesn't sell your stuff for the price you told her you paid.....lol

And your wife better not see the price sheet or your will may be executed earlier than desired...
