I would think those two things could make a lot of difference in the knife.except for the lock back and slightly slimmer scales, it’s the same knife

I would think you'd feel the same way after all the effort you've put in to slimming down the #71's.![]()
Regarding the mud bug; I passed up on the #21’s because they didn’t seem like a useful knife for my needs. To me a lock back or slip joint doesn’t change it much... but when that announcement came I felt the urge to go check on them and temp myself. I abstained... I’m proud of myself.
Sounds like the same issue I have with Northwoods.Don’t get me wrong, the Mudbug is a cool knife, just a bit pricey (in my opinion, of course) for what is essentially a Farm & Field that would otherwise cost $65. (Also, since I bought my Mudbug, the price has gone up by $25 or $30.)
I've been hoping for a Bullnose Lockback too.Yeah I am the same. Tempted but put off by the size and the price. If the mudbug was the smaller and cheaper, count me in (are you listening GEC?)
I think it varies. Some foods (certain fruits, especially) I can taste it, others no. YMMV. Also, feel like I taste and smell it more on Case CV steel than 1095.You can almost taste that patina
I am curious tho, those who cut food with their 1095/carbon blades, is it very noticeable in the food?![]()
Anyone else noticed that we have a Viper knife in swayback with a warnie recently voted on for the forum knife, and an announced run of GEC vipers in the same pattern as was used for the 2012 forum knife?
Mere coincidence or is GEC intending to make a statement?
I think in the past they did the preorder and forced you to buy a sheath but then sold some stand alone knives when they actually got the delivery. This time they sold some with a sheath and some without but they still may have some to sell when they get the order in.How fast do the mudbugs usually get gone? Wondering if I'll have a chance.
Edit: nevermind I should have read the previous page![]()
I personally wouldn't deal with these people. Or dealers that mark up regular gec's fir $140 or $169 .I think in the past they did the preorder and forced you to buy a sheath but then sold some stand alone knives when they actually got the delivery. It didn’t seem too unreasonable the price for the guaranteed preorder was a handmade sheath at a fairly reasonable price and if you wanted to pay less you took your chances later. I was more saying it just to say that they might have some to sell later when they ship.I personally wouldn't deal with these people. Or dealers that mark up regular gec's fir $140 or $169 .
But, hey I'm all for free market so more power to them.
I hear ya, it's just my rebellious side I guess. I don't like being forced. I much prefer the dealers that suggest a sheath (or give you a free one). It's a mental thing. I'd rather have them charge a reservation fee.It didn’t seem too unreasonable the price for the guaranteed preorder was a handmade sheath at a fairly reasonable price and if you wanted to pay less you took your chances later. I think it’s a great way to guarantee future knife sales. I’d probably lose that sucker 5 minutes into the woodline and since it’s a nice od green it ain’t ever getting found.Hmmm...Not seeing how the Mudbug sheath is “tacticool.” Looks like a traditional pancake belt sheath to me.
