Lets talk GEC!

That's a very handsome assortment, too, Jiki... there's just something about boxes though that haunts me. All those times I've seen neglected, surely once beautiful and useful pocket knives rusted shut inside cardboard boxes at tag sales and flee-markets . I just can't shake it... I'd naturally guess with your talent for carving that perhaps you'd consider making some sort of holder for your knives. Looks like you've invested enough in them! beautiful collection.
That's a valid point, these are just the current carry options. I keep them in the box on the counter as a courtesy to my wife so they aren't scattered. I need a wicker basket. ;)

Sew up a pouch - it's pretty easy!!;) Scrap cloth, say Denim and flannel, or anything!! The cords can be sturdy shoelaces stitched in!! (My sister-in-law loves to sew!!):D Neat and safe!! Doesn't matter if it gets a little oily!!:pPouch 1.jpg Pouch 2.jpg

Buy a pair of jersey gloves and drop one in each finger - anything is better than dropping them in a box.

My old knife partner told me he had a friend that had a little antique store and loved Case knives (this was back in the '80's). My friend would go in there and ask about knives and he would pull out Folgers coffee cans and open them up and have 20-30 Case Tested and Case XX '88 patterns, '80 patterns, etc. - never used and the blades shiny as the day they were born. He'd run his hand down in there and stir them up and say "all I have are these old things, but they are not for sale".

What do folks like about the easy open? I understand there's folks who need it who might have arthritis or something, but aside from that does it really buy you a whole lot?

My very first traditional was a generously gifted #15 crown lifter with an easy open, and I couldn't be happier. I have always stayed away from traditionals because of how hard the nail nick is to use easily, it's always bugged me that I have to actually struggle to just pull a blade out of a knife because of the stiffness of the spring and the sensitivity of my poor nails.

The easy open is a perfect solution in my eyes, at least for knives where the blade would be impossible to pinch without it; I can just focus on using the knife instead of struggling with deploying the blade. All my traditionals have blades that are easily pinched or have the easy open.

GEC website under “production table” updated to show the 33’s.

Tidioute = antique autumn jigged bone/shield is TBD

Northfield is stag with no shield

I’m nice to my safe queens but the users bounce around in a segar box with their cousins from Case, Queen, Schrade etc. They don’t complain.

To me liking an EO style knife is a matter of taste like any style knife or anything at all, car, boat, house, you get what I mean. I do have hand issues but that’s not why I own and collect them, I love the style and I don’t only own GEC, I have others. Hard to explain why I love them but I’ve always enjoyed an EO and will always keep looking for that special EO knife.
