Lets talk GEC!

Buy a pair of jersey gloves and drop one in each finger - anything is better than dropping them in a box.

My old knife partner told me he had a friend that had a little antique store and loved Case knives (this was back in the '80's). My friend would go in there and ask about knives and he would pull out Folgers coffee cans and open them up and have 20-30 Case Tested and Case XX '88 patterns, '80 patterns, etc. - never used and the blades shiny as the day they were born. He'd run his hand down in there and stir them up and say "all I have are these old things, but they are not for sale".
Love the glove idea. As Max Smart said, Why didn't i think of that.

I think my beer scout can be pinched open easily enough without the EO notch. I don't have one, but it looks like it's a pretty handy addition on a drop-point 25.

Old Boiley has been through a lot, but I once carried it for over a year with just light stropping!! Best edge holder I ever had!!
It was my first Barlow out of the box (except for the Prototype!)!
I wanted a patina on it, and went a little overboard, maybe??!!:DBoiley engraved.jpg Boiley is Back 1.jpg Boiley.jpg

What do folks like about the easy open? I understand there's folks who need it who might have arthritis or something, but aside from that does it really buy you a whole lot? I've been finding out lately that most of the knives I have I open with a pinch technique subconsciously- striking because this includes the #14 clip and the #15 spear, which both have low profiles for GEC's but still have enough above the handle to pinch open.

I ask only because, whatever the gains, for me it does two things:
1) A proud tip (or edge!) will find itself in that easy open cutout sooner as the knife ages. Perhaps it's still protected from cutting people or things by the rest of the handle, but I hate the look of a proud tip.
2) it kind of ruins the aesthetic for me. In most patterns it looks like a discontinuity or after-thought.

Of course tastes are different, and I get that. I'm just wondering why some people are so wild for them.
I just like it, I’ve got it on my one and only beer scout and just think it looks cool.

Wonder if the center things to ponder image is tied to Octoberfest in any way? I don’t think the timing works with a knife release if they still have to bang out the Mudbugs and the 33s but it’s been on my mind.

I love Ol’ Boiley! A mascot if I’ve ever seen one!

they can crank out 1300 pieces, including two production setups in two weeks?! They are animals! Very impressive. the M&G is on the secret frame, right?

Yea, I have no idea on how long it takes them to produce the precious. An Oktoberfest cap lifter would be pretty cool. While I’m just making stuff up, I also want it in acrylic Bavarian Blue and white checkers

I don't know how many they finish a day/week. The 800 33s are most certainly started as the 23s are being finished. The Mudbugs ,according to the Smith and son's web site are due 9/1, so they are not next.

What secret frame? They are on the next frame, there had been many rumors, guesses, hope, and wishes on what that is. My guess, hope, and wish is the 35 frame. But we will see soon enough.
