Let's talk traditional, pocketable, fixed blade knives.

Please make sure that the knives in this thread are "traditional" as well as "fixed blades". Some of these don't look much like any traditional knife I've ever seen.

Yeah, its clear when it comes to folders but I feel like sometimes the fixed blades are kinda ambiguous. The izula I posted clearly isnt traditional though. I guess its one of those "I know it when I see it" kind of things :D

That's pretty much how Gary and I feel about it as well. Difficult to set hard and fast rules when it comes to Traditional fixed blades. But you are right, we know it when we see it. And sometimes we don't see it.

The Bark River PSK is a super-cool knife that one can legally carry in a pocket in any city in the US. Bark River's Mini-Canadian is another. Both of their blade lengths are under 2.5 inches.

Note: Police in some cities might hassle you about the Mini-Canadian because it has a longer "blade" length than 2.5" though the cutting length is under 2.5". The PSK, which is a surprisingly useful knife, doesn't have this issue.

I guess California has been excommunicated from the US. Here, all fixed blades are verboten for concealed carry, regardless of blade length. As there is no pre-emption clause for knives, counties and cities are able to come up with more restrictions.

Small fixed blades are great for pocket carry, and are usually less expensive than a folder of similar quality.

But you can legally carry it on your belt in California, unless your local municipality has additional laws.

I like to carry FB in a KSF pocket sheath in my back pocket. Top of the handle sticks out, wonder if that is considered concealed or not.

Same here. In Canada our knife laws usually comes down to the "intent" of its use.
"Tool"- Good to go
"Self defence/ weapon"- A big NO NO :thumbdn:

This …

Becomes this...

I just picked up my first pocket fixed, a little drop point in CPM-154 from Corey Lueneburg here on the exchange.

So far we've just been trying it out in the kitchen, and it works well as a paring knife. Here it's next to an old cross Electrician for scale.

Thanks, Gev, I still need to find a sheath I'm happy with. The one I have that fits it is not ideal for pocket carry.

Alright awesome. I was attempting to not be the newbie that posts in the wrong thread.

I'm looking for a pocket fixed blade that meets the following:

Wharncliffe/sheepsfoot blade shape. I'm looking for something that has a very straight cutting edge. The knife in post #212 in this thread is a very good example. Blade shapes like the Kershaw Needs Work, Kizer Ki4450A3, Spyderco Yojimbo are all shapes that would work.

Blade that is no more than 2.75"

Overall length that is no more than 6"

One of the nicer steels. Stuff like 154CM, S30V, S35V, VG-10. No 8CR13MOV or smiliar steel.

Under $100 would be epic, but I can save for it, so let's say $150 max.

Thanks!!!

Chris
The knife in post #212 is a "Lime Cutter" and can easily fit your budget and be found right now. Bark River makes a wharncliffe styled FB knife, but i don't know its particular name. The others i can think of are out of your price range as stated. Maybe others can help more! Be sure and keep it Traditional ( I know you were just referencing the knives above for blade shape)

Are these "Lime Cutters" made by nighthaxan here on the forum? If so, does he take orders, or do you have to just wait until one pops up that you want.

I think we are right on the line here as to what is acceptable discussion. We can discuss the knives, history, etc... but not where to buy them unless its a supporting member of BF. Maybe a mod can help?

My bad, I did not realize there was a rule against talking about where to buy knives.

That being said, I was able to contact the maker of the Lime Cutter and now I'm on the waitlist!
