Linville Knife & Tool Hi-tech folder false advertising

I mean it was on the cover of Blade and mentioned quite heartily in the article , so it has to be good , right ?

Todd

Blade magazine has gone downhill quickly in my opinion. After a knife magazine starts doing reviews on United Cutlery I'd say all their professionalism goes out the door. And how many articles have you seen in the last 6-12 months about one of the deadbeats in GB&U, there have been more than one, that Blade acts like they're the best maker ever without any known problems? Isn't Chudzinski in the latest one? No thanks, I just look at the pretty pictures now.:(

Is it true that a few years ago, until you were spoken to by other knifemakers and the Guild, that you were selling folders made from kits at shows but failing to let the customers know they were made from kits? Think carefully before you answer because I was told this by 2 former officers of the Guild and very highly respected knifemakers themselves.

Interesting.

No kidding? I'm gonna have to get a copy of it, I'd love to see what they wrote about that turd!

I went to get my latest Blade to make sure that was the magazine and oddly enough I found the first typo on page 18. There is an ad for a place called Linville and they are saying they've got a knife kit with TITANIUM frame and bolsters. Not just Titanium or Ti but TITANIUM. MUST be a typo? :p But... no Chudzinski article. It was in Tactical Knives magazine. Looks like they run a Chudzinski and a Gossman wilderness knife through it's paces. It's a 3 page article. Sorry for the confusion.:foot:

Maybe it was a ti-po...? ;)

I bought of these knives. My first impression was that I was pretty impressed with it for a $60 knife. However, on closer inspection I found a very noticable grind mark in the part of the liner that is exposed below the sandalwood grip. I also noticed a couple of small nicks in the bolster that I thought would be unusual for Titanium. I thought the bolsters looked like aluminum.

After reading this thread, I checked the liners and bolsters. Definitely NOT titanium as advertised.

In my opinion it is a decent knife for $60. Not flawless, but nice. I would think the the very noticable grind mark in the liner that I mentioned should have failed final inspection.

BUT, I bought this under the impression that I was buying titanium. The fact that Mr. Britton obviously knows that the bolsters and the liners are not titanium and yet continues to advertise them as such on his web site is outright fraud and proves his dishonesty. Because of that, this will be my one and only purchase of Linville products.

I rarely respond to threads like this, but after reading what's gone on, I have to ask: Why hasn't Linville contacted its customers to advise them of the Ti issue?

In my mind, after the first contact I had with someone who discovered that my product did NOT contain the materials it was supposed to contain, I'd immediately go and examine my stock to see if I had gotten taken. If it turned out that I HAD gotten the wrong materials, you can bet I'd be on the phone/or email my customers and advise them of the situation. You could then offer them a refund, and take up the matter of lost machining time/revenue/shipping/etc. with the supplier who gave you the wrong materials.

That's what I'D do, but then again I have been told I have an unrealistic sense of what's right and wrong. Oh, and lack of complaints doesn't mean they're not there. Not everyone checks the products they get to make sure the materials they get are the ones that are advertised. Others, just might not think its worth it.

FWIW, I got taken by a Guild member once who sold me a kit knife and claimed it wasn't. I just don't purchase things from Guild members anymore without checking VERY thoroughly in advance. Live and learn people.

BTTT !

Ads are still in Blade magazine , ads still say the same info , anyone have any sort of update ?

If I cared (and I don't about the reputation of the magazine) I'd send a note to Krause the publisher and to the editor asking why they continue to hawk the wares of thieves.

His website still says it's a TITANIUM frame and bolsters . . . still says it's a limited edition of 600 though he was almost sold out back in September 2006.

Wow so , 600 folks get ripped and nary a word in the knife industry ?
hmm.......

It doesn't really matter. The word is out among the buyers. You can't stay in this business long with one-time customers or ripping people off by misrepresenting what you are selling. I can't imagine anyone who has read these threads ever buying anything from Tim Britton because he has proven that he is dishonest and doesn't care.

Most of the people that read Blade magazine are not members of this forum and have probably never heard of any problems with Linville.

Looking through Tac Knives and Blade, I saw an ad for a BG42 lockback. I checked the website, where it is a bit confusing, as the same model is listed as having both BG42 and AUS8 (took some googling to find both). Same price for both steels, confirmed by an email response. I don't know what to make of it, I see no way for both of those steels to be offered in the same knife for the same price.

That's easy, the AUS8 knife is over-priced.
