Lion Steel "Roundhead" Euro-Barlow

Maybe. Not certain. The guy may have just guessed or was adding a few weeks to be safe. I didnt put my complete faith in his answer as Im sure there may have a language barrier with my southern drawl (Not that it is extremely thick :D) and his ability to hear over the crowd noise.
It's just that it's my birthday on the 12th and was hoping for it to be released around then. :) Oh well, I'll have to do this adult thing and learn patience. About time as I turn 37. :p

I put in my early reserve for a ram's horn when they were first announced. I've waited this long & I suppose I can wait a few weeks longer. It's not like I don't have anything else to carry. In fact, I was just looking at my "bowl of Barlows", trying to decide which one to put in my pocket today.

They did win knife of the year for the third straight year. That says something to me about the quality.

Yep, Overall Knife of the Year 2017 and Manufacturing Quality Award 2017.
I think that CK establishing a relationship with LionSteel will turn out to be a very, very good thing!

A very good sign indeed. This knife is looking more and more interesting.

The barlow is a special order for Collector knives. I don't think they would be offered for sale by Lionsteel.

Technically it's "mid-June" right now. Just saying.

That's like saying Monday morning is midway through the week. It's only the 4th.

I wasn't expecting them to be forsale but it would have been cool to see a prototype

Im not sure who I spoke with at the Lionsteel exhibit yesterday. When asked about the barlow he kept apologizing repeatedly. He said it was his fault because he thought the move would have been easier and failed to plan well enough.

Mike, Im certain, knows more than I, but the gentlemen said it looks more like early July. Either way they were great folks and had a new fixed blade callled the M1 that was extremely tempting. It was around 5 3/4, maybe 6" and looks like a perfect edc.

I was hoping they would have brought a prototype of the barlow, no luck.

Thanks for inquiring and letting us know Brett. I think most of us probably have enough knives to last a few more weeks :).

Are you sure? I thought that some of the barlows were a perhaps special order, not the entire production run. And no, a special order would not have been offered for sale at the Blade Show, but they could easily have had one available for looking at from a marketing point of view. That I would have fully expected. I realize that Collector Knives is a big LionSTEEL dealer, but honestly I can't imagine a company creating an entirely new knife just for one dealer. Could be wrong.....

When I asked the gentleman about the "Euro" Barlow he said,"Oh, you mean the knife for CollectorKnives!" Made me think it was only for Mike this run. It may be a test run through Mike to judge interest. Mike?

Maybe I need to put my order in perhaps.... I figured other dealers would have them once they were released.... I wish someone could confirm the special order thing.

Lionsteel usually announces their upcoming knives on their website but i haven't seen this one there

If I recall correctly I believe Mike addressed this in the video review. I believe he mentions that he contacted them and had it done. It's been a while since Ive watched the video

Edit: I'm certain this an SFO for Mike but will gladly say I was wrong if so. Post #50 may help.

The handles / bolsters are removable. Pivot and backspring pins are fixed. Screws make assembly easier and we decided not to buff them off just to give the look of a pin and loose the ability to swap skins or allow for bolster treatment if the customer wanted. I have been carrying the pictured prototype for a few weeks. Have come up with a handful of tweaks, but for the most part they nailed it right up front. We didn't want a traditional Barlow; in my opinion nobody will ever top the aesthetics of the GEC #15 and #77 models in this day and age. Our American traditional makers are not able to work with some components that I felt left a void in the market these days. And the American makers that could, are solely committed to the modern folder.

There are no pictures of the other variations, because the other variations do not exist yet. Lion Steel is awaiting our final "Go" before putting these into the 90 day production cycle. We just needed to see where the demand was on the slab materials. The other slab materials can easily be spotted on other Lion Steel models.

As with anything, there will be lovers and there will be haters, and there will be many in between. Sadly, someone has to put money on the barrel head to figure out if it is a boom or a bust. But having this knife in my pocket I finally just came to the conclusion that if it is not a success; it has nothing to do with the knife itself - as it is a peach. More likely my (non-existent) marketing skills or a million man march of those that couldn't stand to see screws in a traditional style :D

I appreciate the efforts here to explain the Euro-Barlow. From my take of the text in post #298, it does sound like a SFO for Collector Knives specifically. I find that amazing really. Me thinks that the 2017 traditional forum knife should have gone to LionSteel or at least they should have been considered. The 2017 forum knife is a settled deal.
