Lion Steel "Roundhead" Euro-Barlow

It would be great if Lion Steel produced different covers and bolsters as individual accessories one could buy.

An all titanium barlow or the ability to pick and choose materials would certainly be something I would be interested in.

Horn covers with a nice ironwood or ebony bolsters or mammoth and ivory would be interesting.

I gotta say this is a pretty sweet idea if Mike kept extra slabs in stock so we could swap some things out. Even a bolster and screw swap would be pretty neat. Although I realize the added cost and having to keep it in stock makes it harder.

I like the idea of a screw swap as well Josh. Different colors would help blend them in. At least a black set would be nice.

I don't have a knife with titanium, so I wouldn't change that.
I was looking at handle materials last night, so knowing me I'll be making some handles for it.
Micarta, bone, wood, a lot of options out there.

polished linen micarta would be great!

I am thinking of all of the scrap pieces I see on on the materials vendors for cheap.
$4 for ironwood, $9 for abalone, et al...

Thinking blue g10 slabs with abalone bolsters, or iron wood bolsters with black, tan, coyote, or OD g10 slabs.

Who knows how many options there are.

Don't forget about copper and brass as well.

As this is a traditional pattern with modern materials it has been discussed in the traditional sub forum by those who enjoy traditional patterns.

I am curious to know how those who are more fond of modern materials and modern knives are reacting to this hybrid of sorts.

It's still traditional imo but is it modern enough to bring in those who don't normally go for traditional knives?

Has this been cross posted in the Lion Steel Subforum or general discussion?

The possibilities are endless!!!
I would really like the option of purchasing extra screws, even if they are only available in silver.

Having other options for scales and bolsters eventually, seems like a no brainer. You can almost count on some modder(s) to offer them, and most likely screws as well. I really hope this goes over in a big way, I would love to see a locking model with similar characteristics to this one. Man this one will be a bit of a tough wait. :D
Thanks, Neal

It reminds me of the Fallkniven Gentleman's folder, but at half the cost and with better materials. As mentioned the quoted price on these are impressive, at least imo, for what you're getting.

I'm really excited about the ram's horn option. I've wanted something with this cover material since I saw my first pictures of Ed Fowler's fixed blades, many years ago.

Exactly! Half the price and better materials!

I'm hoping for a nice strong pull! Can you tell us anything about the pull, Mike? Is the spring also stainless?

I am glad that I have held onto the trim from the scales I have done recently.
I currently have some pieces of black dyed curly maple, pomele sapele, really tight curled "fiddleback" maple, ironwood, brass, natural canvas micarta, and one or two others that I can't immediately recall.
On top of that, I have some scale sized pieces laying around too.

This will be some fun.

Yeah, this quickly killed my interest in the Falkniven. I had the same thought when I saw it. Gets rid of the ugly bail too.

I look forward to this release more and more with each passing day! This is going to be a lot of fun and really sheds some light on a whole new corner of the traditional playground. High performing modern materials and precision manufacturing combined in an easily personalized traditional pattern for around $100? Seriously?? What's not to like?

Not to put the cart in front of the horse, but this marketing philosophy just begs to be followed up with a large locking Hunter patterned after the Remington 1306 and of course, a Scout! Maybe take the Scout a step further with full take-down capabilities that allow it to be configured with the blades and tools the buyer chooses. Now back to reality....

I put myself down for a stag since youse guys apparently took all the ram's horn ones, but I'll go broke if there's ever a Lanny's Clip run like this.

This would also open up the option for aftermarket tools.
Want a sacking needle instead of the awl?
How about a can opener instead of the cap lifter (blasphemous, I know...)?
Fish scaler/hook remover instead of your saw?

Depending on batch sizes, if the back square, tang end and tang front were each left .030 large, then they could be filed to fit every knife made and charging $30-$35 per blade might be reasonable.

Unfortunately, not likely at all, but I would like to think it is possible.

This one is definitely tempting me more and more!
I have one question though. The description says "Dual sided, pinch-able pull". Does that mean that there is a long pull on each side of the blade?

It looks like Ram's horn are still available when I look. I'm sure the stag will be a good option though!
