LionSteel Shuffler

Got my shuffler in on Thursday! (sorry bout the pics, light was terrible in this weather...)

Haven't had much time with it yet, but loving it so far. Will definitely be putting in an order for a Roundhead and Dom. Not sure on scales. Maybe ram, ebony, and/or micarta?

That is some great stag right there!

Just got my carbon fiber shuffler in to match my roundhead. I hope that no animals were hurt in harvesting materials from the Majestic Carbons that gave their fibers to make this knife so beautiful.
The Majestic Carbon wanders its natural habitat.

This one is a real beauty; just mature enough to be harvested for a gorgeous set of shuffler slabs...

Finished up the sheath, the Shuffler works well in my type of sheath, where I don't think the Round head would have enough contour to provide adequate retention. This makes it handy for retrieval. And leaves my watch pocket open for my new whittler ;)

That’s fantastic Gary! And it seems to ride well next to that other “sheath”.;)

Hah well my wife’s nephew was my model and yep that’s another holster for something else that goes bang :)

Any chance that you might have covers that could be ordered separately? Seeing as these are precision made pieces and a lot of people are liking those rams horn and carbon fiber a lot...?

The one I received yesterday was really bad, although I think it was just because of some kind of factory defect. I only opened and closed it about a dozen times before it felt like two pieces sandpaper rubbing together, and metal shavings started falling out. I just put it back in the box, filed a return request, and shipped it back to CollectorKnives this morning. I put in another order for one of the white carbon fiber ones last night, so I'm crossing my fingers that I have better luck with that one.

I've had that happen with a GEC. Hopefully there isn't actually a burr, as Mike said, because if there is it can seem to get better then get worse again.

Let us know how that worked out. I am not a fan of the white CF either and contemplating to put my shuffler up for sale or mofifying it. But that’s risky as it will then be mine forever and I mostlikely botch the mod.

It turned out ok. I don't think it's that much more tacky or grippy, and it doesn't look as flashy or cool, so I probably wouldn't suggest it. It still fits ok, but the screws aren't as sunk.

Take the slabs off and look at the back....

Before any sanding

The knife came back today and is perfectly fine. I think you will just need to get accustomed to a slipjoint breaking in when new. I can see where maybe a tiny burr on the corner of tang may have been wearing off but experienced no significant tension right out of the box and a drop of oil made it purr like a kitten.

That's good to hear.

Both of my Shufflers benefited greatly from a good flush. I'm sure the lubricant they use is a great lubricant, but it just slows it down too much for me. Once cleaned out, it seems like the Shuffler may have even better snap than the previous versions. By a smidge..

I rinsed mine and it actually made it temporarily MUCH MUCH less smooth. Very gritty. But after oiling and working it it is back to the base smoothness. Not as smooth as most GECs or my one Case, but nice walk and talk.

My apologies then. I'm very new to slipjoints. The action on the Roundheads I have just seemed so much smoother to me, which is why I felt there must have been something defective with this one. I'll take this as a learning experience to be more patient with a new slipjoint knife. What's a good oil to use to help with the break in process?

I find mineral oil clears stuff out and doesn't gum up

Thanks for the update L.H.S. Your CF sanding job looks pretty good . I tentatively decided to part ways with my shuffler and jump on the ebony version later this year. Ebony will look stunning. In most posts the natural covers on these CK Lionsteels get more favorable reviews than the CF. Maybe speaks more to the non tacticool crowd. The white CF definitely missed the mark IMO.

I think the CF looks cool and is definitely tempting, but I like the mix of modern and traditional feel you get when going natural covers.

After spending some time with my white CF Shuffler, I've decided it isn't for me. Perhaps I ended up with a lemon, but the pull was gritty, the blade had play when opened, and the lettering on the tang/blade had rough edges. This is subjective, but I wasn't a fan of the appearance of the white CF along the tapered edges. Otherwise, the form and covers were beautiful.

In fairness, I did purchase it on the secondary market. That said, it was marketed as NIB, and I believe that.

My only other experience with Lionsteel was a first gen Roundhead that was probably the most flawless knife I've owned.

That would be the first I have heard of any play. Since it was second hand have you checked the pivot torx? Have you oiled the joint? Can't help with the lettering, it is the same as every LionSteel I have handled.
