Lock fail pics (graphic)

I super glued a nasty cut on my ex girlfriend after she put her hand through my apartment window. Super glued my wife once after she cut herself with a Kershaw in the car on the way to go camping lol I've super glued myself countless times too :D

I would like to know more about this Superglue. Is it just regular Superglue like at a stationary store or aisle?

Would it have worked on a cut as deep as the OP"s? If so, would you just pour it into the cut and hold it together?

How soon after a cut does one need to apply?

Yep I’m the knife guy everywhere and yes “I thought ur the knife guy” comments lol really annoying too!

Yeah my brother still gives me :poop: from when I did a number on my hand with a leatherman like 10 yrs ago. It does get annoying lol.

Just regular old super glue does work really well for small bandaid level cuts, it seals and protects the wound and kind of keeps it stationary from further opening. But on one like this I wouldn’t recommend it or putting inside a wound be reckless.
This was down to the fat layer and don’t think a chemical such as that would be healthy. But in a pinch with no available treatment it’d be better than nothing, would be best to pinch closed and shlack that mother closed.

I've used it and seen it used on some pretty nasty cuts. Clean the wound thoroughly, close the wound by bringing both sides together as much as you can and then seal it with super glue. Off the shelf Krazy glue or most super glue will work. Hospitals use a "medical glue" that does the same thing, ask me how I know ;)

Yup...welcome to the knife wound club!! Sorry that happened and glad your healing up. Super glue is in the CA (Cyanoacrylate) glue family. CA glues are the only glues i know of that cures with water/blood. Thats why it works so wonderfully! All the rest of the glues are water/blood soluble, and cure with air. Im 99% sure that is correct. Lol. Always room for human error.
Ive used super glue on cuts for a long while. Usually if im "out there" and have no options. Caution: It is known that some people can have an allergic reaction to CA glues. Food for thought, and im sure this has been discussed before. Heal up!!

Edited for spelling and clarity.

Super glue was originally designed for cuts, normal off the shell stuff I wouldn't use though. The sterilized or clean version would usually be called liquid bandaid and is found d were the Band-Aids are. I picked some up for a good cut on my thumb and used it for the first time a few months ago. Unfortunately a normal bandaid did t work well due to the location and the cut was deep enough I was concerned with infection if I didnt keep it clean. Happy to report it worked well and almost no scar, it will probably only be visible to most if I get fingerprinted.

Also as others have said for bad cuts like the OP this is definitely the wrong tool for the job, it's more for light duty. And requires frequent reapplication.

We have used super glue for years in the winter on cracked skin on our fingers. You have to be out in the cold feeding stock and your fingers get painful cracks just coat the cracks and it keeps them from getting worse. Then it wears off in time and leaves the skin healed.

Was total and complete lock failure. No debris or other possible problems for the occurrence. I liked it due to light weight locking and relatively disposable expense wise. Yes easily repeatable but also does still lock just not with any strength. Wasn’t totally the knife fault was using not the way intended but still axis or compression wouldn’t have failed. Live and learn right? I guess I was still relatively lucky
I have a Flash 1 & it is relatively easy to fail the lock. Cheap knife, good for light duty tasks only

Thanksgiving about 6 years ago, I hear my wife call from downstairs "Honey! Could you come down...and bring the super glue".

She managed to fillet the side of her thumb for about an inch. Got her sitting down with her hand held above her head, glued it up then caught her when she fainted and slid out of the chair:). Healed up pretty nicely, I'll see if I can get a pic of the scar.

Good times;)

I noticed in the “after” picture that you were using your knife in the wrong hand. There is your problem!

not that it matters now but I always cut a stick to do that. clean the swamp mud and muck out of boot treads.

heal up fast.

Superglue works well as long as it is liquid enough to pour and spread a bit, but gel superglue doesn't work the same way. I tried it one time and damn near glued a bunch of fingers together, and it did leave a bunch of blood-colored goop on my hand that looked like I had leprosy. I have to say, though, that I have stopped using superglue as first aid now that I have discovered WoundSeal. It's an antiseptic powder with a clotting agent and sealant in it, just keep pouring and working it until the wound looks like it's packed in mud. It works better, heals cleaner, but the downside is it really hurts like hell going in. Worth it though.

Happens to the best of us, part of the hobby. Not a lock failure but Got this little cut from some complacent protective oiling post sharpening a few weeks back.
