LOL'd Bear Grylls Knife

I watch the show everytime it's on. It's one of my favorites and one of the very few shows that I watch religiously.

Talked to Bear a few times though it was well before he got so famous, he's a good guy as far as I can tell.

Yea, like Diz said, if the show were "safe and smart", it wouldn't be on the air anymore. I found a new show called "The wild within" that knocked Bear down to the number 3 spot as far as my favorites go.

I'm not going to be taking anything I see on the show as sound survival advice but there is alot of good intermingled with the dumb.

As for the knife, I plan on getting one. I had an LMF and it was a great blade. Wish they would offer them in plain edge but oh well. I also like the design of the "T" handle on the firesteel, looks like a good idea as does the design of the sharpening system.

The breakage issue.....It can happen to any company, it's the way it's reacted to that's the true test and as far as I know, they haven't given anyone any trouble with warranty claims and the problem is being fixed.

Gerber was always one of my favorite companies back in the day and their quality seems to be rivaling that of the 80's and early 90's as of late with the new products I've gotten to handle.

And now imagine that the ESEE-6 CP with molded sheath and the Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife are about the same price in Germany. Gerber is crazy. I believe only idiots are buying this knife in Europe. I call it scam.

If Gerber offered you a ton of cash to put your face/name on a blade even if you knew it was junk you would do it to provide for your family and Im sure thats mainly what happened here.

Watching the promo video of this knife makes you cringe...

seeing a guy putting his repuation on a cheapo knife with that smile on his face....this is just sad.

"Truly the ultimate knife!".....right....

ITS ADVERTISING!!@

Im not saying that its a True Statement of being "TRULY THE ULTIMATE KNIFE", but what advertising company states the complete truth they all lie for the most part to sell something.

Most people don't even know the difference of a cheap knife and a good one and would never spend a lot on a knife.

So to them its not a cheapo knife, its a Gerber knife with Bears name on it both of which are well known to people.

Its good business for both parties no matter the quality of the product. Most knife brands have cheapo models for the masses.

It's only a scam if it affects you? By that logic Madoff isn't a scammer because I didn't invest with him.

No, I just don't see where it's a scam. Bear has legitimate credentials. Gerber is using him to promote a knife. Where the freakin' scam? Anyone stealing anything here?

one thing i really have never understood, is why do people spend far more time hating on people they dont like, then praising people they do?

Lost in translation maybe? I'd only be upset about a crazy price if I wanted it. I don't, so I don't have an issue. They could be charging a million dollars a blade and I'd feel the same about it. Probably not a bad knife. I love gerbers. Just not my style.

I won't. Again, just because no one is taking my money doesn't preclude it from being a scam.

scam (skm) Slang
n.
A fraudulent business scheme; a swindle.
tr.v. scammed, scam·ming, scams
To defraud; swindle.

There's no scam. They have a knife in a blister pack. they claim it's a knife in a blister pack. It's not the best knife in the world. big deal. It's a straight up sale. They have a knife....they want money for it. There's no scam, lie, or misrepresentation.
