Looking at options

Game Wardens are great EDC sized blades! Even better with a good sheath. :D

Along with a perfect match of a sheath, Chad Pirtle's (PirtleMade @cpirtle here on the forum) EDC leather sheath.

And again, with matching Pirtle EDC sheaths

Other 'kin options that were mentioned are also great choices. Here's my blue/black G10 satin custom shop Rodent 3 when she was new

And another picture with a SYKCO 311 above, and an old school Swamp Rat Warden below the Rodent 3

Hope that helps! Can't really go wrong with any of them, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that out of this bunch, the Snake Warden is definitely my favorite.

The more I see those GW's and the different variations, the more I am really liking them. The Rodent 3 is also definitely on the radar. I had no idea there were so many different models and variations of each model. Head spin! I'm loving it though. You guys are pretty awesome :thumbsup:

Usually, the easy part is figuring out what you want. The hard part is finding one.

+1 for the Mini-Vex. I got one in my grab bags yesterday. Love it.

Ha! I'm learning this ;)

The good news is that the exchange has been much more free-flowing the past year or so after O2W began. Before that, prices were higher, and certain models were near impossible to come by. Much more out there for sale these days.

Well that is definitely a good thing. I'm hoping I get lucky, I've been keeping an eye out. But, I've learned that keeping an eye out doesn't do much good until you're ready to rock 'n roll. They don't last long! (I'm hoping to hold out for a kind soul that happens to need to/be willing to let go of a GW for a reasonable price/trade :))

The downside, or upside (however you look at things :D), is that having to wait has really made me question what I truly "need" and what could potentially go to allot funds to buy a Busse or two I'll actually use..

I've heard recommendations saying go with SR101 over INFI for a smaller blade. While I understand that, and generally tend to agree because I'm smart enough to know when someone is smarter than myself :D, I still pose this question. For a person that doesn't mind touching up more often, and is a sweaty person in a wet area with "not so good" experience with carbon blades, would you still suggest SR101 over INFI? I don't really know the composition of either steel, but from doing some reading and searching I have found that it's a general concensus that INFI is much more corrosion resistant than SR101. I also just may beat the crap out of it and use it for "everything" (short of deliberate destruction, of course) because hey, why not? That warranty is absolutely incredible. Thoughts?

SR-101 should have roughly 1.5% Chromium vs. ~8% for INFI.

INFI is far more corrosion resistant. If that's important to you, go for the INFI!, especially if you don't plan to have a coated blade. You just have to balance that against your budget, etc...

I have used my SR-101 blades pretty hard and never had any issues, so the toughness aspect isn't a big deal for me in the real world, but I'm sure INFI is also better in that regard in an absolute sense. My INFI blades are great, but SR-101 blades are cheaper so I have a lot more of them... Plus I don't mind the staining/patina at all. :D

Thanks for the input. I had heard several people saying that INFI wasn't necessarily good for a smaller, thinner fixed blade. I wasn't sure why, but through reading I basically came to the conclusion that it was people's preference for more wear resistance (something I don't mind dealing with, and favor corrosion resistance anyway). I also know the penny I drop for INFI will be a good bit shinier than the one I'd have to drop on an SR101 blade! :)

I've always wondered (thickness being equal) which one of the Busse steels would handle lateral stress better.

Interesting thought. I'm curious as well. I wonder if anyone has done some testing like that.

The new Park Ranger looks awesome, and I love my Anniversary Mean Street, but if you're looking for something a little smaller try getting on the cancellation list for the Mini Mean Street.

I think at the same RC 58-60 there should be little noticeable difference. Both being carbon steel at optimum Busse HT you're going to need a cheater bar 4' long just to get enough leverage and then I think it will bend and not break.

Many test were done on INFI years ago by Cliff Stamp unfortunately those videos are long gone. I watched them and is kinda the reason I started buying Busse...Cliff abused knives in ways that will make you cry!!!!

If those more experienced than I were to suggest an alloy that stains comparably to SR-101, what would it be?
O1, 1095, A2 or 52100 (which SR-101 is/was based on, for the newer folks), or?

That's awesome. The reason I first started looking at Busse was the warranty, and Jerry himself. Since I've started, I know I'm hooked now! :D Jerry is a hell of a guy and Busse makes a hell of a knife.

There is also S7 (SR-77) if you remember that one L6, D2(stains a little less but stains) I wouldn't put A2 with O1 or 1095 very different A2 is much more complex than the carbon steels...O1, 52100, 5160 are a better grouping. 5160 Makes a Helluva Chopper.

Well I guess the only thing left is who has a GW in INFI they want to sell me as my very first Busse blade :D:cool:

I think when I do find "the one," I'm going to go with Kydex upside down belt carry. I really enjoy the comfort of carry in that position, and it works well for me and my long arms.
