Looking for the perfect bush/survival knife for me. Going with ESEE most likely.

very good advice, i respond to these kind of statements much better than threats of being booted, mostly because i dont think it would be to hard to create another email and handle and be back on, and also cause i have a hacker friend who hasnt taken control of any websites and shut them down for awhile just for fun and hes got the itch, but i appreciate your approach stabman and ill take the advice, especially of sarcasm and jokes not being perceived the way the should when just typed over the computer

So now you going to threaten the website?

Bye bye...

Sort of surprised he lasted this long. Thanks to the Mods for taking care of this! And a picture of a couple of big knives.

Used my Busse to do a little yard work over the weekend with my dog watching over the haul.

The mistress did the limbing out and chainsaw for cutting sections?

That's a big ol pile o wood!

No, decided against it. Jonsered did the heavy lifting with the Husqy doing limb removal. Just felt like putting up a silly/outdoors pic. That would've been a long day with the Mistress; that pile is all red oak and my dog is right around 34" at the top of his head.

If I was going to commit a federal felony, I would certainly make a permanent record in advance of my intent to do so.

Good grief that was moronic. Ok I'll answer a couple of questions though just in case someone else was interested in the answers. Yes Busse is well worth the price difference with Esee. While Esee is a good well made knife it is up to the performance level of similar sized Busse blades. Its just not.

My personal favorites are customs from Newt Martin along with Busse blades. All of those will take a severe beating and just keep on going.

Sounds right on the money to me. Busse is definitely worth the price difference.

How is the Survive! warranty compared to ESEE?

ESEE Website: http://www.eseeknives.com/warranty.htm

If you break it, we will replace it. Warranty is lifetime and transferable ...

ESEE KNIVES ARE NOT THROWING KNIVES! They are hardened to a higher Rockwell than throwing knives and will most likely break if thrown, possibly harming the user. So, do yourself and your ESEE knife a favor and DO NOT throw it. Using any knife not meant to be thrown as a throwing knife is idiotic! We would rather idiots not buy our knives ...

We do not warranty against rust or normal wear and tear.

Survive! Website: http://surviveknives.com/warranty-returns-liability

All SURVIVE! knives are warranted for life against defects in materials and workmanship. Additionally, if your knife should ever suffer significant unintentional damage, we will replace it with a comparable model for only the cost of shipping and handling.

SURVIVE! knives are designed for use as a cutting tool, built using premium materials, to provide many years of reliable service. Use of a SURVIVE! knife for any purpose other than cutting is considered abuse, which is not covered by our lifetime warranty. SURVIVE! knives, like any tool, can eventually wear out. Keep your SURVIVE! knife well maintained for best performance and optimum service life. Blade coatings and factory sheath systems are not covered by our lifetime warranty.

Knives damaged due to abuse/neglect will be handled on an individual basis and will be repaired or replaced, at our discretion, for a reasonable rate. Please contact WorkShop@SurviveKnives.comfor all warranty, service or repair inquiries.

...We offer free lifetime resharpening on all of our knives. All you have to pay is the cost of return shipping...

I cannot tell from the ESEE website if they do repairs, it just says that they replace broken knives, and there are documented cases of them replacing intentionally broken knives. And despite their knives being known for high toughness, they decry "abuse" and encourage flaming of customers who use the tools in such fashion as throwing. *shrug*

S!K warranties against "unintentional" damage, offers repair or replacement, free sharpening, and has a system in place for handling "abuse/neglect" cases. That sounds kinda like Busse to me, though S!K is not yet known for encouraging users to "abuse" their knives the way the Busse companies do  It isn't a "no questions asked" warranty like ESEE, but the knives are also made of higher quality and more expensive materials.

It should be noted that Buck & Gerber offer lifetime warranties similar to that of S!K: http://www.buckknives.com/about-knives/bucks-forever-warranty/

We warranty each and every Buck knife to be free of defects in material and workmanship for the life of the knife, and we will repair or replace with a new Buck knife, at our option, any Buck knife that is defective. Buck Knives does not warrant its products against normal wear or misuse. Buck Knives are not intended to be used as hammers, chisels, pry bars or screwdrivers. If your knife was damaged due to misuse, our repair department can analyze the damage and repair it for a reasonable fee. If your knife is unable to be repaired, we will extend a one- time courtesy offer, allowing you the option to purchase a new knife for 50% off of our MSRP price listed on the website, excluding any custom knives or web specials.

I have not used the S!K or ESEE warranty, but I know that if I sent in my chipped GSO-10 blade, I'd get the same knife back with the edge repaired. I cannot tell if ESEE would do the same or just send a new knife... *shrug* BRKT has a similar lifetime repair/replacement warranty.

What about Scrapyard knives? They aren't too expensive it seems and they seem to have a pretty good rep. But how's the steel in them?

Busse Combat, Swamp Rat, and Scrapyard share the same warranty: http://www.scrapyardknives.com/our-guarantee/

Busse Knife Group is proud to have the toughest warranty in the industry.

All Busse Knife Group blades are guaranteed for life against any and all unintentional MAJOR damage. Your knife will either be repaired or replaced at our discretion.

Please note that aftermarket modifications done to your knife outside of our shop that cause your knife to fail may void your warranty.

Busse Knife Group encourages extreme usage of our blades as they are without question "The Toughest Knives in the World". We have no rivals. You can use a Busse Knife Group blade as hard as you like and our warranty has you covered.

As mentioned in the last line, these guys encourage "extreme usage" - throwing, prying, quarry, demolition ... There is a series of videos where a guy cuts a car in half with a Swamp Rat tomahawk (trough the frame, not the engine-block, let's be serious ;) ). That tomahawk is made from SR-101 steel, used by Swamp Rat and Scrapyard, a modified and specially HT'd version of 52100. It is very strong (usually tempered to 60 Rc), unusually tough, and has decent abrasion-resistance. It won't out-cut high-wear steels in tests like Ankerson's but it'll take and hold a very fine edge well, much better than an ESEE at 55-57 Rc in 1095, it isn't prone to chipping, but it also isn't corrosion resistant so is usually coated but can take a nice patina when left bare. Busse Knife Group makes some great handles (both materials and shape), and even their rubber is exceptionally durable, so much so that they warranty it as well.

But keep in mind that the knives don't come from the factory with sheaths, and they do tend to come with rather obtuse edge-angles so if ordering direct, try to specify an edge-angle with their sales-department. Also what is listed on their website isn't all they offer, you can order from their "custom" division but of course at increased cost.
