Love for the Rift

Here is my Rift. I like it better after adding some jimping, I now need to get the action smoother. I can't feel any love for this knife other than the blade shape. Mine has much blade wobble, it's stiff, the scales are sharp. I got to get to work on this one to make it more for me.

I couldn't get mine to open smoothly without loosing the pivot screw a long ways. I took it apart, cleaned it up and added some nano oil now it has really great action and my pivot screw it tight enough to remove all blade play. I really like your jimping and hopefully add some to mine.

When you took it apart, have you buffed the copper bronze washer? I used 2000~4000 to mirror polish, then used Slip2000 EWL and baked it in.

Also G-10 handle has rounded the edge a bit to be more comfortable.

I polished mine with my 1 micron strop. I got mine with the G-10 which is really comfortable. It doesn't have the sharp edges like the grey and black scale.

A little washer work is all mine probably needs. The blade shape and handle length is great. I love the grey and black scale but I think I'm going to do a custom set on it. Does anyone know what was used to make the liners black on the black Rift ? It seems like a delicate coating. It's not very scratch resistant, may look good with normal use over time. Not always a bad thing.

I think they may use some type of cerakote coating. It definitely isn't very tough though as mine hasn't seen much pocket time but is already coming off.

I've posted this in two other Benchmade threads; the rift is really growing on me!

Glad to hear it's growing on you, BMC. I didn't dig mine the first day I had it, either. I actually thought I was going to send it back. Not sure why that initial response but now it's one of my favorites.

I was taken back a bit on my first day of owning Rift. It needed some smoothing of the G10 handle on bare hand, and lack of handle liner jimping got to me (94X and Griptilian has liner jimping) .

I eventually get used to the roughness of handle buy using it for a while. I have smoothed out the edge a bit so it is not constantly scraping against my skin.

Now a days, it is one of my favorite.

My Rift has finally broken in. I have been carrying it all week. The blade has very very little play and it is flicking open with great ease. I'm starting to find the love for it. A few mods are in the works and will be posted if all goes well.

I ended up getting the 9555 model, but when I got it. I felt like it wasn't as sharp as I would like it to be. The knife itself is my favorite so far, but I don't like the scales and how it looks after being in my pocket. Seems like it collects dust a little bit.

I ended up selling my 1st Rift but I missed it so I ordered another. I just can't get over how much blade that handle packs. It'll be my EDC in blue jeans for sure.

The Rift was the first butterfly I wanted but got sidetracked by 4 others.

I'd love a Rift in M390,D2 or CPM M4 like my Contego

The Rift forum knife does come in CPM-M4, but kinda expensive, as you might have guess it. I think everyone in this thread would love to buy M390 Rift... (Mr BKC moderator, hint hint!)

After I have added jimping and smooth out the edge of G-10 handle, the position of my most favorite EDC knife is well secured. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...imping-to-my-950-Rift?p=13202173#post13202173

Of cause I will let it retire when M390 Rift arrives.. :D

The BKC forum knife is gorgeous minus the writing.

It's a turn off for me but I wouldn't not buy one because of it

Does anyone else feel like the steel is too soft? Mine seems to dull really quick. I've started putting large angles on it to see if that would help but so far it hasn't. I am considering sending it to someone and getting it hardened to the 61-63. I am quickly moving to better folder with s35vn because of it.
