Love for the Rift

Although, BKC have not released Rift in M390, my daughter wanted Rift for her EDC. Her Rift is 950, satin blade with gray / Black.

I have sanded the ridge with 100 grit sand paper to make it more smooth than stock version.

I like the Rift, interesting blade design and a nice looking handle as well...haven't gotten to use it much yet need to start carrying it some more. Only complaint so far is I could do with out the ridge between the ring and pinky finger. G10 doesn't feel that aggressive maybe they toned it done in later versions.

@ jkarp

Missed your post back a few pages. Yes, these indeed are a prize. I received #183 from a most awesome member, over at the ranch.

Hands down, my Rift is the smoothest blade I own. It is like glass and smoother than many customs 3 times the cost.
My only complaint might be its a tad heavy but I can get a scarry edge on that Rift that its been a knife that I always reach for.

The Rift is an amazing tool. The reverse tanto has made me a believer, so much that I have a 940-1 and a 810-1401 coming. That lack of jimping on the top of the frame is not a problem as the ramp is plenty to keep my thumb in place if I have to bare down on something hard. Most of the cutting chores don't require my thumb to be on top and the textured scales are very welcome. It is amazing for a larger blade the intricate work that can be done with it. Ya, I have, and do feel the love.

If I grip the Rift as far forward as I want to, then my pinky lands right on the ridge. That forces me to move back my hand so that my pinky lands behind the ridge.
The best solution may be to grind down the ridge.

I love the blade shape but I hate that hump.

It's a great looking knife. Finger grooves are always a problem for some hands.

Yea, I could hold it one certain way and be fine but any other grip position was uncomfortable. This IS NOT to take away from the knife though. The Rift is a great knife. It is everything a good Benchmade should be; it's just not right for me and my bear paws. :)

I can see this issue. What I found is that from kendo blade strike, I was told to mind the difference of grip with index finger side versus pinky side upon striking the target.

Especially if you wield a blade with one hand, this means that you hold the grip with three fingers (at least those are tighter than ring finger and pinky finger) then just a fraction of second before impact, consciously tighten up pinky side of grip. I have done this ever since 5 years old, so it doesn't make me feel odd, but it takes a bit of getting used to.

I think Rift handle can utilize this method and that helps to overcome the ridge between ring finger and pinky finger.

As usual YMMV. :)

950 is damn near perfect. Just wish I could get my hands on one of the M4 forum Rifts one day.

Can you say, FrankenRift!?

Forgive me for Zombie'n this thread, but I thought starting another on the same subject would be a sin.
First, I had a great Rift a few years ago, loved it so much, it has been burned into the cockles of my brain. It had blue Rit dyed scales, my own spa treatment (polished washers, sharpened & polished edge, centered perfectly) & had further mods planned for it. Of course, small things take precedence like building of a house & the 950 had to go. Now, the price is right & I'll giving another Rift a home. This time, I'll be modding this one like it should have been.

P.S. Since I've had the blue, maybe another color choice? Kelly green perhaps?

So it is written & so shall it be done. Pics will follow.

It will not be neon yellow. The gray will affect the final color.

Yeah, I know it'll be some ungodly weird shade of puke. Oh well. At least it'll be different. I can always go "tacti-cool" black. *sigh*

could always go with “honey, this came out so pretty with the color you picked out that i’d like you to have it. ill just buy another one to use, this one’s just too perfect........”
