My apologies to those who keep saying to let this thread die. After following this for the past two days, I've finally decided that I have a couple of things to say. . .

First. . . What kind of response did Tummler expect from everyone here? It's the Spyderco forum. Of course there are a bunch of "fan boys" (devoted customers) here, and of course they would all defend Spyderco.

Second. . . Tummler made some ugly/insulting comments, but there were quite a few questionable comments from the other side too. These just kept egging him on until the whole thing escalated to ridiculous proportions. This should never have gone as far as it did.

I'll just keep it at that.

I will buy the knife if he will just go away. Spending more money for the good of spderco:)

Hard to believe this thread is still going.

Someone told me about the language that Mr. Tummler used towards me. I think his mother should wash out his mouth with soap.

We checked our history, (based on the name he used on U-Tube) and we have no record of his ever sending a knife to us.

More than likly he will look back on this time with embarrassment.

"No one wants to look the fool. Everyone does the best they can. If they knew better, they'd do better".

I believe if Tummler knew better he'd do better".

So...............Do we have the intelligence, maturity and discipline to just let this thread die without having to close it? :)

I hope so, thanks again for the professionalism, Sal. I wouldn't be so lenient if someone was bashing my company.

sorry Sal, the thread will end itself in due time.. but you need at least 3 pages of people calling you a gentleman and a stand up guy. once those obligatory pages are complete, we will let the thread die.

btw, you are a gentleman and a stand up kind of guy :-D

I really appreciate the kind words, but they are not necessary. I have my bad days as well.

Hi TH232,

The quote came from an old woman that we met while walking along the railroad tracks in Oklahoma City, mid 70's. (We were putting coins on the tracks and watching the train squash them for our daughter).

You are certainly welcome to use it, it always causes me to rethink a situation.

Hey Sal, is that your quote? If so, can I borrow it?

That's kind of funny, because I liked it so much I put it it my sig line over at SDC Forum. :)

I'll have to edit it to say "old woman on the train tracks". ;)

i have got a comment for tummler....or w/e his names is cause i've read through like 100 pages of people aurguing over situations where their opinions help none,SOOOO heres my "helpless" opinion............if you like to do the lock test i.e. tapping the back of the blade while no pressure is on any part of the cutting surface(as there would be if he actually used it rather than played with it).....buy a CRKT rollock....i've got one, pretty cheap, pretty sharp and i have no damn clue how this would ever fold foward and "victimize" your fingers.....but in all seriousness just count your losses....and buy a rollock : )

PLease just sum up this entire thread in a few sentences, because i really do not have the time nor the patience to read 10 pages of posts reagarding someone bad mouthing Spyderco.

appreciate the help

take care

Here's my summary:

-One angry man with a questionable complaint about a discontinued secondhand knife
-Juvenile tirades against Spyderco and Sal
-Lots & lots of satisfied customers coming to the defense of Spyderco & Sal
-More tirades
-Extreme overuse of this icon:jerkit:
-More defense
-More than reasonable attempt to satisfy said angry man
-More tirades and disrespectful comments and several unfulfilled threats to leave this thread
-Lots of requests to end the thread
-Several people saying Sal is a good guy
-Sal proving he is a good guy by giving away a shirt

End result Spyderco still rocks...angry guy has a tarnished reputation on the Spyderco forum.

How did I do?

Wow... thanks for the generous offer Sal!

Email sent.

Why do people expect so much more from knife makers than they do from other companies? I think we have all been so spoiled by the overall outstanding customer service in the knife industry that we forget what the rest of our lives are like.

Go buy a cell phone and try to get it fixed when it doesn't work out of the box. Try the customer service from your cable company on for size if you want a slap in the face of reality. Go buy a lawn chair from Wal-Mart and when it breaks, just try and have the maker fix it. Good luck.

What I am saying is, most places we do business with today screw us over and we can't do anything about it. Spyderco stands behind their product better than most companies you will ever deal with. Why do we hold knife companies to such a high standard when we don't do the same for most other items we buy?
