Lurkers,

I see you hanging here with zero posts, or low posts. Bwahahahaha!

I think you can tell we're pretty cool here and don't bite. So, say hello here, and tell us a little about yourself if you care to!

Okay, I'l start, I think I probably count:)

I'm a 21(soon to be 22) year old student living in Berkeley CA, I'd offer any of you fine people a beer if you're ever in town. I grew up in England and moved to California a good 4 years ago now.
Growing up I was a boyscout and loved it, I would go camping every year in France with my family. Now that I'm in America I like to get out and see the scenary as much as possible - and learn primative skills, which is a relativly new hobby of mine.
Even though I can barely afford it, I've been bitten by the knife bug:p
More recently I've been buying some of Daniel Kosters work, which is top notch, I have a nessmuk and bushcraft of his, and my girlfriend has his bushcraft too.
Also, I'm doing a BS in Environmental Studies - Natural Resources Management at Sanfrancisco State.

uh yeah, my name is hubert. :p

I live in alaska and am sending this message via smoke signals.

I love long walks on the beach, romantic dinners, and the occasional carabou.

peace be with you....:)

Thanks for the welcome, Brian. This is quickly becoming my favorite section of the forum, especially when I'm broke.

I'm 38 and live in Western Washington. I don't hug trees but I like how they remove carbon from the atmosphere. I also like paper, cardboard, wood in the fireplace . . .

I worked for 10 years in the ski industry, primarily focused on avalanche hazard reduction and risk management. My experience gives me some understanding of what the LEO and SAR boys go through. I've also been around emergency and wilderness medicine most of my life. At this point, though, I like being a dad and not having cold toes.

I've always carried decent folders (Spyderco, Kershaw, SAKs, Gerber) but I never really realized what I was missing. This forum has opened my eyes, to say the least. And now I have a big list and an empty wallet :(

My first real blade was a Scrap Yard Yard Guard. The next one on the way is a Swamp Rat Howling Rat. I'm hooked on Res-C at the moment. Next on the list is probably a Chopweiler, but more likely I will end up with a different brand (see empty wallet).

Anyways, I'll post some pics soon and thanks for the welcome!

I'm not a lurker, but for as long as I've been a member, my post total is pretty low. I'm only popping in here to say: I've never had a problem with any of the moderators, and they all do just fine, BUT, Brian, you sure are doing an exceptional job! Your involvement, and the tone of all your posts is refreshing. This thread is a perfect example! Thanks for making such a great contribution. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates it.

Scott,

Thank you for the kind words, and welcome to all of you. Wilderness skills are the perfect pastime when you're broke, since most of what you use is found in the wilds for free!

Okay - I know there are more of you out there....:D

I'm not sure if I would be considered a lurker or not. I usually only post if I have something important to say. As I work swing shift I usually get here later in the day and whatever I was going to contribute has usually already been said. I don't see the point in added my two cents once the subject has been throughly discussed unless there really is a reason to.

As an older and well respected SAR hand likes to remind us when dealing with radio comms "Never pass up the opportunity to say nothing".

I for one really enjoy Brian also. great guy and fantastic mod.

I was obviously kidding in my first post. Weird mood today.

Hey guys i post occasionally and start threads sometimes. Im pretty new to the forums but love it. Ive always carried spydercos but now im broadening my horizons. Ive always loved the woods and am going to college for enviromental and forest resource managment at SUNY ESF. right now im a butcher.

All right I'll jump in as well. I've gravitated to this form because I honestly think it's the most interesting I've seen so far:) I'm 45 and live in what must be the ONLY valley in the state of North Dakota and wouldn't trade it for the world. Love the outdoors in addition to knives and gun's:thumbup: Been married for 25 happy years and have 2 great boy's. As far as moderators go I think you do a great job Brian, you seem like a real stand up/blue collar guy. I don't say much as a rule but will chime in more from now on do to the nice invite:D

Thanks,

Paul

Thanks, Paul. people tell me when they meet me that I'm exactly the same in person as I am online. What you see is what you get with me. That may be a good thing or a bad thing...LOL.

I do check in here once in a while to view some of those awesome photo threads of you guys outdoor adventures. I'm pretty much stuck indoors up here in the North East until the weather breaks, which should be soon. I'm not much of a cold weather guy but my camping and hikeing trips are just a few degrees away. Thanks Brian for goating some of us in the backround to jump on in.

Well today I posted my for the first time asking about a khuk while camping/hiking. I'm 22 and currently in school for Biotechnology. I'm a tutor there and I've had many students tell me that I should teach. I love the outdoors but I don't get enough time to spend out there. It's been almost a year since I've last went camping. It's hard to get my friends to go with me, they're all too much into video games.

Many of my friends collect knives, but you can only look at most of them since they don't have the quality. So I've been trying to introduce them into the better quality knives that won't costs them too much and teach them about sharpening. Though there's still much for me to learn.

So come on guys, post something. It took me FAR TOO LONG to introduce myself.

Daniel

Are Heavy Posters Welcome too.:D:D:D

I'm a newbie to the forum so my post count is low. Actually I doubt my count will climb very quickly; I usually only respond occassionally. Anyway, I'm in SE Wisconsin which is unfortunately very urbanized. I don't get out to the woods nearly as often as I'd like . . .

I've really been enjoying the forum. Both for the camaraderie and the wealth of information.

Thanks for the welcome,
Tim

Hi all,

I mostly lurk, but have become involved in some of the discussions as of late. I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors, but it never seems like enough. I spent quite a while in the military and now work overseas in conflict zones as a contractor. This is the only forum on the board I visit. It's great to check in here and see beautiful pictures of all the places you guys explore while I'm overseas and unable to do so.
