M2 TRYOUT!

It's almost 1 AM here. I'm already bad enough at going to bed.

Yeah, I keep telling myself that I'm going to start sleeping at night and be up during the day like most people, but it never lasts more than a couple of days, or less. Lol
My body runs on a 34 hour clock. It's been that way my whole life and has caused me a lot of problems. That's one reason why I loved hard physical labor, after a 10 -12 hour day, sometimes longer, I could fall asleep nearly as soon as my head hit the pillow.

I called him first and talked to him about it. Then he gave me his email address to send some photos to him. Then he tried to sell me one of their presses. LOL
But I'll accept half of the blame - I should've thought about taking it slower, earlier than I did. I would bet a dollar to a doughnut that the manufacturer cheapened the metal to save money. The old eyelets are clearly of a higher quality.

Yep, I jumped the gun getting my hopes up. I tried 3 more eyelets from the new bag and they all split. And I was being as slow and gentle as I can. Two of them split in my press and one of them split while I was using my hand setter. There has to be a problem with the metal.

Anyway, I have some new ones coming in tomorrow, and some more next week from a vender that I found online, Specksstore. So, hopefully I'll have some good eyelets on the way.

Sorry... I've skipped about 2 pages... working too long compared to sleep time (forget the down time! That's entirely taken up by the pups!)

But just a thought...

Did you fellas ever consider warming up the eyelets before pounding on them?

No, I've never had to worry about it before. Hopefully I have some 'good' eyelets coming.

My eyelets came in from Amazon. I thought that I was buying from someone other than holstersmith, but the bag had their name at the bottom. I tried two of them and they both split.

Hopefully Speckstore doesn't source their eyelets from holstersmith. I'm just a hobbyist so it's not the end of the world to me. I wonder what the people are going to do that make a living making sheaths and holsters? I'm not sure that people will want to pay good money for nasty looking split eyelets.

I tried oiling this time and oiled my press inserts and eyelets, and it made no difference. I'll try heating them up later and see if that helps.

Like I said, if you can't get any of them to work I'll take a crack with what I've got here. I don't think I've ever had them split.
Oh, I didn't know that he was that sensitive. Corrected.
It's more of a standard that I wish I could hold myself to. My day to day language use is anything but stellar, but I try to comport myself better when in another man's house.

Edited to add: I also have some HDPE sheath material and snaps here at the house, if all else fails I'll stitch one with that and some waxed linen and add a snap retaining strap.

I might have to let you handle it if the next batch is as bad as these. It's a shame when a company sells an inferior product and then blames you for it.

Sounds good.

I may have to take you up on that, Willie. My eyelets from Stecksstore came in today, and they're too short. I thought that when they say 1/4" eyelets, that they are talking about the diameter, like everyone else. Alas, they meant the length.
And 1/4" in length is not long enough for two pieces of Kydex - Photos below.

How many 'good' eyelets do you have? I'll buy a hundred or two of them from you if you have plenty.

Not really many, I bought a kit some while back in the hopes of using them to fix my boots, so it's a hodgepodge of different colors. Never could get them to work on the shoes I wear, but they've worked on a couple of sheaths.

Ok. You may need the 3/16" for shoes.
