M4 Millie secondary value?

Same as retail if you find the right seller (that's what I "sold" mine for a few months ago -- well, when it eventually gets to me it's being sent off to its new owner). I don't believe in me personally “e-bay profiteering” from it. To each his/her own, though...

What could we expect to pay for a M4 Millie in the secondary market?

Do you mean, what could you expect others to pay for a M4 Millie in the secondary market? ;)

The thing is that on eBay it isn't usually the seller who goes nuts, it's the buyers. :( All it takes is two people who are determined to win.

from my limited experience I'd say if you are looking to buy from BF, you'll be looking at $10-$30 over cost, which is $220. Ebay look at possibly $50 and up over it, with a few wacky auctions going $300+.

tree fiddy?

ok being serious.. the first few days your going to get people who get it and don't like it.. they will prob put it up for sale or trade for somewhere around what they got it for.. then a month or 2 later your going to get the people who like to resell it pop up and tack on a bigger price tag. it depends on what people will pay for it. this is a very sought after knife. so my advice to u is when the knife first starts to arrive at peoples houses keep checking the trading forums and the for sale.. there is going to be a few that will show up u just got to get to it b4 everyone else.

this will be my first spyderco i hope i like it ..........

It's an expensive knife to begin with so it's hard to say how much more people would spend for a Military. People can pick up CPM-M4 in the Spyderco Gayle Bradley for a lot less. Some people might want to wait for the Military II after seeing how nice the Paramilitary II is. I wouldn't mind larger screws, a pivot bushing, and a moveable pocket clip.

All good and valid points. Time will tell! ;)

I used my magic 8 ball, and I predict they'll go for about $220 or so on BF, but the sky is the limit on ebay. I further predict that the prices will not increase much, if at all, on BF, but will on ebay. S90V Millies still show up on BF for about $200, and even when they start higher, like at $250, the prices usually end up being lowered. But it wouldn't shock me if a couple of years out you'd find an M4 Millie going for $350 or more on ebay.

But even at $350, no one is being forced to buy it--it takes a willing buyer. Limited edition knives are luxury items, not necessities. If all you need is a good knife, your option is to buy a regular S30V Military for a little over $100. It's not like selling a loaf of bread to a starving man for $1000.

That said I have strong dislike for ebay, and do not sell knives there ever.

you could score S90V milles for $185 all day on the bay when they were in production. There was more supply, then demand for em back then. Ive seen some go as high as $400 on ebay now that they have dried up. The M4 is sold out before being released, that and its ti. Im predicting these will be one the most expensive spydercos to date once they hit the secondary market. Atleast $300 to start, more around xmas, and even more in a year or two. Sucks for me, looks like Ill have to stick with that lame S90V version :p

The problem with fleabay is the site's fees more than the sellers in most cases. If any of you've ever sold something expensive like a $300 knife for e.g. when you fill out your acution and get to the "submit" button - the Final Value fee they charge is insane! So, the sellers have to build that cost into the selling price of the knife, as well as consider PP fees and charge shipping fees.

It's not like our community here or other boards where members grow to trust other members and see their track records. Our "For Sale" area - you can pay gift option and in 99.99% of cases there's never a problem or 3.5 % PP, also the knives come with shipping charges included and nobody kicks back to Spark. This keeps costs lower.

one million moon dollars.
sounds about right though! :D

i believe the final price of the knife was 210 which included the deposit

No no no. I'm not looking at selling it like a Hinderer knife or anything. I just want to get out of it what I have in it. I don't operate that way.

I heard word from another member that there is buzz on the Spyderco forum that the M4 Millie will probably demand $300 on the aftermarket.

But I believe, like a few others, the sales forum will be proof of what sellers expect and what buyers are willing to spend.

I never look into buying a knife to just re sell, but if someone values it higher than one originally paid...everyone wins and to each their own.

I suppose another factor is that while M4 has a loyal following, I'm not sure how large it is in comparison with folks who gennerally have reservations about carbon steel.

It's all guessing for now...but not for long, probably.

BTW/FWIW, my complaints about eBay and PayPal are not the fees, which I don't like, but their heavily buyer-biased policies. All the buyer has to do is f@rt and you have nearly incurable negative feedback and PayPal clawbacks. They need to stop pretending that buyers are always right and sellers are always bad.

I agree 100%

I use to be a big supporter of ebay but Ive nearly had it after receiving a negative feedback due to my unwillingness to ship to an International bidder who won one of my knives clearly listed as USA S&H only (he never even sent $, therefore no deal). ebay had me on hold until my phone died, almost 2 hours  Luckily, I sucked up my pride, reasoned with the unreasonable buyer, something I should not of had to do to begin with, and he revised the feedback.

Screen shot proof of being on hold for nearly 2 hours by ebay customer service :thumbdn:

Thanks for listening, rant over :)
