M4 Millie secondary value?

The problem is, that at the rate things are going...well, you know...embarrassment of riches and all that...

After seeing JNewell's youtube post I could see these getting snapped up at $300-$350 cor NIB by the time Xmas gets here.

What post is that? Link?

There is one thing I don't understand here.
If some decide they don't want a knife they pre-ordered, and don't want to flip it for a profit, wouldn't it be better to just try to get the deposit back, I am sure the dealer would be glad to work something out considering the waiting list they must have?

I didn't decide until after it was shipped. Typical.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I am a little disappointed by the way that lockbar insert is executed, compared to the Lionsteel, for example.

It jumps out at you. They'll probably make it look a little sleeker on some future version. Redesign the notches on the lockbar and machine the fit a little smoother visually. Beats a sticky lockup. ;)

I'm not upset. they kept it clean looking. The Lionsteel way just has more visible screws and joints and just sticks out like a sore thumb. Spyderco's you have to look for it to know it's there

The Lion Steel insert is very noticeable IMO. (Link)

It is, but it looks like the knife was designed around it. On the Millie, it feels like the insert was added as an afterthought to the existing design.

I am pretty sure that after some users found the non-heat-treated lockbar on the Ti Military showing premature wear, that Spyderco went to the current solution as a "fix" that wouldn't significantly delay this particular knife. For what its worth, CRK heat treats their Ti lockbars; Spyderco does not (but now seems to be on the course of SS inserts instead). That's what I have gathered over the past several weeks/months anyway. I'm sure others have been watching this more closely...

I suppose like MANY things Spyderco, some will like the looks of the lock bar (and some won't). I think (and I am sure Spyderco hopes) all will appreciate the functionality of it.

Personally, I think there was probably a lot more machining and tooling there than some people may think.

I mentioned it in the other thread but the lock bar plate serves a dual purpose. It prevents over extension of the lock bar since there is a tab that sticks out and hits the scale. I think it is a pretty good design myself as it is also very unobtrusive.

I wasn't aware of that, good point.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that, but I just confirmed that this is the case on the one I've got here. It appeared that the lockbar was stopping on the inside of the clip, but I removed the clip and the lockbar travel is the same. Nice (and unobtrusive) design detail, Sal! So :D anyone who gives the new design a demerit for appearances should give some plus points for this one, which is a lot cleaner than the (ahem) current standard solution to over-travel. ;)

This is a wonderful topic. I always have the hardest time with things like this. I pre-ordered the knife the day it was announced and it is arriving in 2 hours but I didn't pre-order it to use it or even to keep it. I love seeing the new products and making the judgement of whether to keep and use something, or sell it. I can tell you already that this one probably won't stay with me and yes, I'll probably turn around and sell it. For a profit or not? I have no idea. Really I feel like if the seller bought one (not multiple) and would like to sell it later, it should go for what the market holds. I.E. if the buyer wants to pay 400 dollars, by god I'm going to let him pay it. If the market is less than cost, I'm still going to sell it if I don't like it. It's all a game, and an addictive, fun one at that.

I bought it to give it a try. If I like it, I'll keep it, if not, I'll sell it.. if someone is willing to pay more than I did, who am I to argue? It is worth whatever the market deems it is worth.. I will sell it for what the market is willing to pay :)

I'm REALLY hoping I just fall in love with it though...

I agree, but I'm sure that the buyer does not want to pay $400. More like he's willing to pay $400.
