Made in Idaho:)

I have seen a lot of threads and post about people talking about discoloration on the handles and the colors not matching X and Y... I am pretty new to the custom knife arena, but why does this matter? A knife is a tool, right?

He could've had a picture of an ass on it and called it the butthurt version and I would have prob bought that one too. :)

Who knows, maybe RYP sold twice as many knives by offering a sterile version.

Depends. CR knives are a work of art and I truly think that. He puts his heart in to those knives as a craftsman, you can tell.

S&W used to put the nicest polished bluing on their wheel guns. There were definitely more durable finishes out there but the guns were beautiful and that added to the appeal. Then S&W went and put the abortion of an internal lock on their revolvers. Huge hole in the side that ruined the aesthetics. They could have made it smaller and more inconspicuous, lots of companies have, but they didn't. So, I choose not to buy new S&W revolvers because of it. Free market, they can do whatever they want as a company and I can choose to or to not buy it as a customer.

I can see where from an aesthetic standpoint people might not like the Idaho Made being so prominent on the knife. CR seems to be proud of what he has built and where he has built it. Now if we could only get him to make the frame out of Rearden Metal.....

Wow it's easy to piss people off these days. It's a tool, who cares what they stamp on it.
If you are using it you won't see the writing anyway

We like people that are easy to piss off or get their feelings hurt easily.

Mike and Jeff, can you please go piss off some people in the Spyderco forum next? :D

It is kind of funny that people who like Spyderco's aren't all bent out of shape that they have "Golden, Colorado U.S.A. Earth" stamped on them.

Guess I just don't really get it...

That looks like crap! I will give you $9 for it! :D

Thanks for posting that Rocket, when you look at the whole knife instead of a macro of Idaho Made it doesn't take away from the knife at all IMO.

Jeff and Mike, please go to one of the Glock forums next once you get done with Spyderco.....

Paul, You know the guy is gonna sell a LOT more knives becasue of this right?:) This whole thing makes me wonder....if we started putting "Rowen" AND "Made in Idaho" on our knives would folks stop buying our knives? We have put skulls, crossed knives, several different logos and lots of things on our blades becasue these things meant something to US as owners and makers and so that translates to the customer as "This is what these guys are proud of and what they are about." That only adds to the aesthetics of the knife overall (that and it's quality) and seems to bear out in our market and sales. But we absolutley are free market capitalists and I support everyone's right to 'vote with their checkbook' . :)

To me honestly, a good knife is a good knife. I just didn't like the one I had, cause how it felt in my hands. But thats just me, I still like them alot though. :D But can't fathom having a knife to just look at...

As for the new made in engraving. Thats kind of cool lol. Maybe they'll have a few that slip production that reads "I DA HO made" lol.

But par what you said, I like the logos you guys use, but also what if maker info was under handles? Just a thought. I forgot where I put my other 5, but I went over its normal skin in flat black paint from Home Depot, for outside metal furnishings, looked great all blacked out with letters still visible indented.

My point is this: If you spend that much money on a knife there is a "pride of ownership" that goes along with it. I think that the stamp is kinda goofy thus it damages the "pride of ownership". I can spend $20.00 on a knife and cut the same things as that CRK. Would it be as cool? No. Would it be as well made? No. Would it cut stuff and last 30 years? Yes.

WOULD IT HAVE "MADE IN IDAHO ON IT"? HELL NO.

Just my thoughts, feel free to disagree.

Paul

Personally I don't care for the Sbenza but there is no doubt it's one of the highest quality folders out there. IDAHO MADE too!

in 10 years, after everyone's used to the "Idaho Made" stamp, CRK is going to decide to take it off. And people will bitch. and moan. and cry.

just wait...

I don't care if ESEE knives said "Maid it China", "USA", or "Made in Deliverance-land" with a picture of a hog on one side and man-ass on the other. As long as they perform the way they do, the customer service and warranty remain. That is all I care. But I use my knives. Collections are for... well.. collectors.

Well, i guess when some of them buy a knife knowing it will be the only good looking part on them, i understand why they are so upset with the stamp...
