"Made in Sheffield" 1830-1930, A golden age ?

Was wondering your thoughts on this one. I've never quite seen this construction before, it's interesting to me. Also, what is the significance of the "Josephson" etch on the pile side?

Nice knife Glennbad, it's "done some work" as they say:)
I have seen late Rodgers examples from the 60/70s that had flush covers with hidden pinning like that but not with the old blade stamp.

My (far from expert) opinion on it is it may be a rehandle by a user who didn't wish to go through the bother of repinning the scales, but rather just peening the pins on the liner and gluing up the scales on top. I did this once to a mates hard user and ground small recessed holes to accommodate the new heads of the pins so the scales could sit flush. The bail and it's holes look pretty hastily executed too.

Second option for me is if I saw that on ebay I'd wholly expect it to be from an Indian seller listing yet another old Rodgers counterfeit knife. They made many, over many years.

Tweedales has no listing for a Josephson or any association with Jos Rodgers and may be a linguistic association with the brand from India. They had a few names likes that iirc.

Anyway, that's my very amateurish assessment which may well be wrong! Either way I like the knife, primarily because of it obvious use in someone's hand over many years. It speaks!

Ps: envious of your well used stiddy and that piece of timber which bears witness marks of many repairs is awesome too:)

I inherited this from my grandfather. The only markings are Real Lamb Foot on the blade, and Made In Sheffield on the tang. Does anyone have any idea who might have made this, and when?
Please post this on Jack's Thread Guardians of the Lambsfoot, it is one huge thread that is the most active thread here in Traditionals full of amazing people, Jack Black is THE Man when it comes to all things Sheffield without a doubt, and a great guy as well!

I have a Sheffield with that exact Bone Jigging somewhere, here is the thread.

G. Gelston /Mfg Co, Anyone have any history on this Co.?
Am thinking American made, as there is no country of origin.
Any info would be great. Bought this and 2 Sheffield hunter / Bowie's today.
Bringing the total to 10 in 2 weeks. Goes in the mail to me tomorrow.
Thanks in advance. 5" blade with horn.

Thank you for the kind words Duncan, that discussion is now in the Guardians thread :) Sorry to everyone for not being around as much as in the past, I have struggled for time these past few months, had some health problems, and we've had civil unrest here this past week  Hopefully, I can get back to spending more time here soon

More a giddy up for the thread, I've shown these before. Any new arrivals of late?
The hand worn single blade Wostenholm features a lot in my pocket. It has a warmth to it, maybe whomever once owned it approves of my use of it.

The Barlow has a well worn secondary blade. I like this and often wonder is this indicative of a cautious reserved sort, one who doesn't want to attract attention, the still waters run deep keep the powder dry type? Or again maybe I'm a bit mad:)
