"Mall Ninja"??

So any more specific knives, brands, styles that somone considers "Mall Ninja" or is it just Dark Ops? How 'bout Masters Of Defense?

In Quantum of Solace an assasin jumps Jame Bond wielding a MOD Triton OTF auto...Dont know if he was a wanna-be Mall Ninja though.

Now, now gents, ideally that wave feature on the Dark Ops knife is supposedly a blade catch.

You know, for when you have to parry some miscreants disemboweling thrust when you're in line at Chick fil-A.

Masters of Defense is "tactical" enough to qualify. Anything remotely related to defense, survival, "tactical," etc. counts.

I've seen posts accusing Cold Steel and TOPS of being "Mall Ninja" companies.

It is all relative. I've seen people here refer to anyone who carries a firearm a "Mall Ninja" but on gun forums where everyone owns a gun, the term applies to people who own guns covered in gadgets.

i beleive this man would classify as a mall ninja, or at least a couch commando or porch pirate. :D

(shrugs) Don't know the brands so good... just the general aesthetic... some of the sort of features/styles I mentioned in a prior post. Haven't fuly done my research, having a relatively narow field of knife interest meself.

Ive never heard of DarkOps before reading this post. And now im sitting here all wide-eyed gawking at the pictures just posted:eek:....Good god!

I mean what the f***k is that knife supposed to be used for?? Had to google it and this is taken from their site:

"The Shadow offers an extended blade length for penetrating Comm-bloc frag vests with an accelerated spearpoint tip and sharpened foretip for maximum penetration. The top edge features a bone breaker and a radical, self-cleaning BlastRip™ saw for carving survival notches in spears and anchoring notches for detonation cord. A pat pend. BarbSnap™ cutter allows for rapid notching and snapping of interdiction wires in entry ops. "

Im sorry but i just cant imagine who'd buy a knife like that...

Just a guess, but maybe the same people who make it a point to tune into "American Guardian" on the Outdoor Channel.

I posted that link when I saw this because I was basically called a chump and a Mall Ninja in the "What knives do you think are not worth the cost?" thread.

It really pissed me off that some guy that can't justify the cost, don't like them or simply can't afford a Strider makes remarks like that. Why the hell do people judge others because of a purchase!? Not something they said they'd do with the knife, just the purchase itself!

Asinine is what it is...

Mall ninja was originally used for mall security officers, especially if they took the security look a bit too seriously. From there it moved to overenthusiastic youngsters who overdid the fantasy weapon rigs. Sometimes it's used here now for knives that are unrealistically militarized, like Dark Ops.
exactly........

I think it's more than just being "tactical," there also has to be a total lack of quality.
Here's a mall ninja
mallninja.jpg

the gear he is mostly high quality gear, but he's a mall ninja because he's just some fat guy who's probably more familiar with special Ed. than special ops.
If his stuff was all crappy cheap copies then he would have mall ninja gear, and he would be even more of a mall ninja than he already is.

Where does the Peter Atwood Bigshot fit in? Novelty item?

SS tactical shot glass goodness!:D

I wonder what these things cost.

I like some Atwood tools, but this is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

If it was glass lined it would kind of cool, but it's kind of a well known fact that metal can taint the flavor of some booze. It's a small rocks glass made from metal....... awesome. I'll take one made from glass that won't ruin the taste of my Gin.

Anyway back on topic. With the exception of a few examples I haven't really heard any specific knives.

I'm sure some of you have seen the upcoming "Warrior" from Spyderco. I happen to believe the knife could be highly useful with the inclusion of a serrated edge on the spine to acompany the main plain edge. I also think that more Spydercos should be available in H1. Whether you are a fan of Spyderco or not, you have to admit that H1 is pretty awesome steel, but back to the Warrior. To me the blade shape throws it all off to me. For me the blade is too drastic and I would have loved to see more of a traditional blade geometry, but still maintaining the usefull serrated spine portion. The concept is awesome, but the design (and honestly the name) sounds what I guess some would call Mall Ninja to me. It's too bad for me because I've been waiting for something like this from Spyderco. So would anyone think this specific example could be called a Mall Ninja knife due to it's appearance? Mind you, I haven't read a description of the knife from Spyderco so I have no idea how they are marketing it.

On the other side of the knife spectrum you have OTF automatics. Now I have carried an MT Scarab at work (Electrician) and it has been useful as hell when I only have one hand to work with at times. I know... I have a hundred one hand openers that I can get to open as fast as I can the Scarab, but I like the design and I've never had it fail on me once so I also like it's dependability. I can definitely see how many would consider this type of knife as a Mall Ninja type knife, but I don't see it that way. Am I wrong as far as the majority is concerned?

Josh, better hurry, only one left. Layway is available on this item.:D

Honestly I considered it until I realized it was a shot glass. :foot: A fully cup would have been much better imo.

That is one design that truly does not appeal to me. Get rid of the serrations on the back and it'd be perfect though.

If one is to make assumptions about why another person says certain things, isn't it just as fair for one to make assumptions about why another person owns/buys certain things?

I love the logic here!

Person A: "I think Striders are mall ninja, chump knives."

Person B: "I think people who think Striders are mall ninja, chump knives are just jealous because they can't afford one."

Person B: "Why people be hatin' on me? I'M NOT A MALL NINJA!!"

Has Person B done any less generalizing that Person A? No. Person B just feels compelled to whine about it.

3Guardsmen, If I remember correctly, you were one of the people calling Strider owners chumps and mall ninjas...

To be fair, I said someone that does not like them, can't justify the cost or just can't afford them. And, that only came after pages and pages of stupid remarks towards owners of certain brand knives. Really childish stuff!

Unfortunately that's a somewhat true remark. Maybe not so much with knives, but cars and homes for example. My brother-in-law for example makes comments about my house all the time. He's 43 or 44 and has a small apartment, but before losing his CPL license, had a 6 bedroom home in Houston a little bigger than mine.. You'll often hear someone refer to another that owns nice things as "wasteful" or "what the hell does he need that for", etc. When, in all reality, they'd own the same things if they could.

Or, when some guy sees a really pretty girl, then sees her boyfriend or husband. Very often, that guy will make some stupid comment to his friends about the "fag" that girl is with or at least put the guy down in some way.
