So, Steelnut, you let a layer of rust pop up then hit it with the dremel + honing compound? Do you just go until the superficial layer of rust comes off. I only ask because I don't know how thick the decarb might be. Is it obvious when to stop?

I don't know how thick the decarb is, but it did not take long to get down to shiny metal.
I am waiting to see if rust forms on it again.
I am hoping this was the cure because I really like the CF set.
Maybe the CF SJTAC will be in the mail tomorrow:cool:

The decarb is thin, thinner than cigarette paper really. Superficial rust is easy to remove but usually there's still decarb underneath. While it rusts easy it's wear resistant. Took me quite some time to get down past it.

When the rust is cleaned off, could the INFI be sealed, with epoxy, or something else?

You could but I think that's more of a waste of time than anything, decarb holds oil nicely, just treat it like beadblasted carbon steel and you won't have any issues. Eventually with enough cleanings and use and rust here and there the decarb layer will be worn off and you won't need to worry about it. If you have the handle scales off you may as well just sand it down, should only take a couple minutes if you use a decent flat surface and some coarse sandpaper. Reinstall the handles with a bit of epoxy in addition to the tubes to seal out moisture for good measure (though it's really not needed) and you should be good to go

UPDATE::::

In reguards to the Comp. Sarsquatch ...

Just want to let you folks that are interested know I received it back from Tim yesterday ... All I can say is Holy Shi*!!!

Recap:

The Comp SarQ. Mods include

-Re_worked Convex edge
-Spine Straightened over top part of handle
-Corner of the Butt rounded
-Para cord wrap handle with. thin layer of wax applied (stops future rust), wrapped, marine grade resin applied .
-Custom OD green kydex sheath

The end result is one bad Busse . .. And yes, I already put it thorugh some pretty tough use. Light-Heavy chopping, batoning, throwing ect......

If you folks are interested in pictures let me know and I will post them on this thread tomorrow. Can't today because my photo bucket account is overloaded and resets on the 29th..
:)

All the pictures previously posted on this thread should all show back up tomorrow... I know , this thread is worthless without pics.. ;)

so how does the wrap feel for chopping?

The wrap is extremely comfortable. I chopped down a 20ft high oak tree, chopped it in sections and batoned through each piece. I dug a fire pit with it and also practiced throwing it many times. The wrap handle was dusty so I washed it off with water. It has marine grade resin applied to the paracord so the entire handle is waterproof. It washed off in seconds and looked brand new. There was also absolutely so damage from throwing it into trees..
The weight of the blade had been reduced and it very noticeable when in use. The straightened handle helps blade fit my hand proper. It does not feel like I am holding a golf ball anymore. I could not be happier with the results..

I also had my skelly warden bead blasted / Full Clip Point / Asymmetrical Edge... It is a razor.....
