Man survives bear attack with knife

Down to four inches now? This is like a reverse fishing story, the longer it lasts, the shorter the blade gets, until the tombstone finally says "killed a bear by Macgyvering a toenail clipping and a strand of nose hair"

Just kidding :)

Haha, sorry, thought I put "5". Letters and numbers are awfully close together on my phone.

It says 5" knife... wonder if it was a Buck 119, or a KaBar USMC... really I guess it could be anything.

And to think, this was a black bear.. like the smallest kind of bear there is in North America. Glad it wasnt a Brown bear, or a Grizzly..

Saw this earlier on reddit. It shows it in the news video, it's a sawback/one-piece/hollow-handle type but I couldn't tell if it was a specific model.

Heh, a survival knife helped him survive! :D

This is the closest I could find on the internet, but the blade is longer. Price: $8.99

Perhaps they should add "bear extermination" in their description. :D

What a time to be alive! (pun intended)

Although had he not illegally hunted after dark, none of it would have even happened. I thought laws were only made for beauracracy's sake, it seems some are just that dumb they need a rule for everything. The guy himself says he's been hunting "since he could walk", so he should know better. Instead, he came to hunt 500LB bear with only a bow and a knife. It's legal in MN to archery hunt with a side arm. So in my eyes, this one gets chalked up to worlds dumbest hunter lives to tell some increduble hulk BS story. The knife did very little as reports indicated from witnesses on the scene from his group was a firefighter trained in first reponse. Had it not been for the quick action of the first responder this dumb ass would have bled to death.

Lol worlds dumbest man lives to tell the tale.. I got a good chuckle. I do think if the bear was intent on killing him he would have.

Case peanut!

Maybe I missed something, but where does it say they were hunting after dark? Tracking and dispatching a wounded animal after dark that was shot in the legal hunting hours initially is not illegal anywhere I have ever hunted before.

The story I read said they gave it time to expire before trying to track it, SOP on a bow hunt especially for dangerous game.

Unpossible, everyone knows you can't kill a bear with a knife under $70 or a blade less than 1/4" thick.

Yea his story is full of holes.:D Same here, I got a good laugh. For someone who's baiting bear, how'd you blow it that hard?! I think he walked that grey line in between hunting and poaching and got his ass kicked. Rightly so for being such a bad shot. Plus I'm not sure where they intended to keep said bear meat if they were camped outside, the meats not going anywhere, and certainly isn't spoiling in a few hours on a bear that big.

Wow, B34NS. You just can't get anything right about this story can you? He didn't shoot the bear, his friend did. I know you feel terrible that an animal was legally killed, but I'm sure you'ill survive the ordeal.

Doesn't matter who shot it, laws the law, and they decided to push it rather than give up a trophy for a night. Serves em' right for not being able to properly bring down an animal.

MN DNR:
SHOOTING HOURS
Shooting hours for big game are ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after
sunset.

B3,
You might call MN Fish and Game before passing judgment about the legality. Most states will allow you to follow up a wounded animal after legal shooting hours and dispatch it.

Hahaha lucky for them I'm not a game warden. Sure, but all your man crush's on this guy aside, he's definitley one of the luckiest fools I've ever heard of.
