what's wrong with you?

What's wrong with spyderco putting out inferior product is the ? at hand.

I don't suck up to any knife makers. If they're not up to par...I let them know.

I'm just fine...and you.

inferior according to whom?

you? ever owned one?

Dissenting voice here. I have an OD Green version and I like it a lot, but it's far from my favourite knife, it isn't even my favourite Spyderco.
As for tough, I don't want to open that can of worms, but In My Humble Opinion, out of the 60 or so folders that I own, there are few I consider more frail or fragile than this one. It's exquisitely made, it's beautiful, it's functional, it carries very well, there is a lot to like. I dislike the lock (particularly disengaging it), and it does not inspire confidence for me. Overall, the Manix I is the better knife for me.

Same here. I carried mine for over 2 months and wanted so badly to like it. Yesterday I put it back on the shelf with a heavy heart and grabbed a different folder. Hunting/winter is here. That lock is Very difficult to disengage with cold slippery hands. An Accident waiting to happen .

I've got a few spydercos that I get a lot of use out of but I've been on the fence about picking up the manix for a while now. Maybe its time to try it out. Thats a hell of an endorsement. I agree, however, that a zdp 189 sprint run would be nice. I wouldn't have hesitated at all if that was the standard.

Both of mine came NIB with some slight blade play, and I mean slight. It doesn't bother me really, as I can expect some play with a lock of this nature. My daily EDC tasks are not going to cause this lock to fail.

I was a little disappointed that the S90v/CF model had less room left in the locks travel. See Pic.

Anyhow Sal said they are beefing up the next model so that's good news.

That's interesting Rob. I just checked both of mine and they are very tight. No play at all. I thought the main advantage of CBL was that it is self-adjusting?

I may have to get one of those. I'm not totally sold on the handle style but that particular Spyderco blade style is my favourite.

It could be the new pivot screw they're using as well. Tightening it fully, does not affect the tension, much like a Sebenza.

Philwar-it's all personal preference bro.

I could care less if it's not, in actual testing the over strike king, chopping with a folder is like eating steak with a spoon. My bottom line is, it fits my hand, the lock is solid for what I need (it's not a TriAd or a Axis, I know that.) and fit n finish on mine is ridiculous. I got it second hand and its still rock solid, no complaints. If Mr. Glesser puts a more "hard-core" lock on it, thats awesome, just don't change the ergos.

I completely agree with you, built quality and ergos are first rate.

I think a product can be less than perfect without being inferior. The Manix 2 is anything but inferior. In the vast majority of uses, its alleged weakness (and I use that word deliberately) will never be an issue. I am fully aware that for all MY practical purposes, the M2 will be as useful (more even perhaps) as an XM-18.
It's just my feeling about it that makes me ambivalent about it. I am not sorry about buying it, and I don't think anyone will ever accuse me of being a Spyderco fanboi.

If anyone ever succeeds in designing and marketing the perfect knife, there are going to be a lot of bankrupt knife companies and disappointed knife-nuts. It would put an end to serial knife buying...nah, never gonna happen... ;)

Psycoman-

That's pretty funny stuff right there. I have been called lots on this forum, but fan-boy, that's a first, well played sir...

If I do like a knife, which is seldom, I make it known.

Here's a quick rundown:

Manix 1&2
Chinook's 1-3
Calypso
Recon 1's
AK 47
Scrapyard Regs, De-Regs, DF LE
Busse B11
Rajahs 1 & 2
Byrd Cara Cara
TOPS Screaming Eagle, Anaconda
CS Master Hunter
Becker BK's
HI Chunks

There you go, a top ten plus a couple of knives I have carried, lived with, killed with, butchered, chopped, chiseled, pried, battoned, carved, whittled, tried to cut through steel cable with, opened cans, dug and a litany of other real world uses that a guy who served his country, lived outdoors and worked in a kitchen for 13 years can do with a god damn knife.

If you have any real questions on knives, PM me and I'll give you advice for free; if not keep imagining what things could be like and making irrelevant statements based on fictional evidence brought forth by an unending yearning to be the best poster. :D

Rob, I can see that S90 detent being an issue, maybe send it in? If there isn't room for it to self adjust, I can see that being a real safety issue down the line.

The manix 2 has replaced my other work folders. I almost never get 2 of a model, only previous duplicate was a delica, which is a great edc. But I have 2 Manix 2, got lucky and got both the S90V and CTS XHP. The thing is, I did not expect it to fit my hands very well, but it does! Fantastic ergos, and both of mine lock up as solid as any folder can lock up.

Banned not a moment too soon :)

I love the look of the M2, but other folders keep popping ahead of it when it comes to my occasional buying time-first Stretch, then GB, then (probably) Caly 3.

Maybe it's time to take the plunge and just get it, anyway??
