your right Fanglekai at this point i'm a troll, I am not trying to sell their knives.
I will order a mantis cyclops within 2 months. I will open it write down my initial impressions, carry it for a month and post a review with my initial impressions.
this thread is done, this is nothing more than a bashing thread of mantis where a conversation can not be carried out between fellow blade enthusiasts without hatred of the company(for unknown reasons assuming it's not the mantis spamming of 4 years ago).
I will continue reading this thread if you do post on it and if you do I will reply(assuming you post a good and informative post). if you want notification of when I post the review email me at deadlygeareviews@gmail.com

It is sad how this thread turned out.

A lot of you guys should have just left the guy alone. If he wants to buy a knife and evaluate it, what does it matter? Calling him Jared is a bit much.

I have a carbon v ODA and it is an amazing knife very hard steel!
Can't say I can speak to it's durability as I like sticking to larger knives for hard use, but it has very good grind lines!

What knife are you getting from mantis for doing this?

See, now that's funny! I agree though. It's sad that we can't have a conversation without someone calling the other a makup wearing liar. It's just too bad.

I'm getting the mantis cyclops mostly because if I like it'll be part of my EDC and Jared says it's his signature knife.
If it turns out OK then the tough tony or con brillo or wicked or Midnight and if that turns out OK then we'll see
if you want I can send you the link when I do get and review it. just shoot an email at deadlygeareviews@gmail.com

So you do deadly gear reviews? Interesting. I looked up the cyclops and it's incredibly silly looking. For someone who doesn't own mantis knives and doesn't know much about them you sure do know a lot of mantis models. If you're going to do a review just buy the knife and write a review on it. I sincerely doubt anyone here is ever going to recommend any mantis product, so don't go looking for anyone's encouragement. Do what you want and when you get the knife and use it for a bit go ahead and write a review.

at this point that's what i'm doing.
but what i'm saying is that it sounds like you guys are criticizing something that you don't own. for past dirty laundry.
and knowing about what we are talking about(mantis knives) would you prefer me know nothing about the manufacturer?

cool! I found it on the NRAstore site it's at http://www.nrastore.com/nrastore/ProductDetail.aspx?p=KV+22213&ct=e it's called the NRA Mantis Bulldog
22213lg.jpg

and here's a two post topic about it http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/886191-NRA-Mantis-Bulldog
BTW mantis knives are made in taiwan, USA, and China!
the mantis con brillo is made in the USA as well and at amazon the con brillo costs 33 dollars!

....u mean a knock off of the benchmade minipocket rocket that feels like a hotspot in the hand made of cheap 440a steel considering a piece of 440v that thick alone cost more than that price. I have had a run in with ppl of Lantos at blade show 2011 and basically got insulted for a good 10 minutes. I apparently don't know about steels according to the salesman the sales woman just blew. Also despite my training in pendant silat and the fact that I practice with a karambit ever day ,I know nothing according to Lantos about "kerrambits" as the sales man said. I have held them and I would buy frost Cutlery over them any day. For a guy who just heard you sure have strong defensive convictions for a company that ppl have proven to be unfavorable for ethics or quality. You can call up models on the spot and support them. If you have your own opinion then keep it and respect ppl who want to own. Knife by not trying to give us Ur herpes. I mean knives.....

every company, no matter how good or bad, has their dirty laundry. I have heard about the Mantis fiasco. I have a few of the Gerber knives that are "terrible", and in reality if you use them for the usual EDC tasks, they will actually perform pretty adequately. They take a *moderate* edge, and hold it well enough for the usual uses. That is exactly why I am looking at buying the Cylops, so I can give my honest review of it, because I could care less about the fiasco.

Does anybody actually have anything about the Cyclops itself, or is this too going to turn into a Mantis bashing thread? I would like to know people's experience with the knife, because I refuse to make an uneducated purchase (again, just the knife, not the company).
Lowbquality blade will break easy you'd be better off with a leek in a neckholster at that price. Spyderco Rorin I believe its call, that you insist does not exist has been used as a neckknife before. The blade will break on actual use. Hazard to owner. Not the quickest deployment worth 6 bucks top.

Now that I have addressed on ethics and product quality from personal interaction. I would like to point at post 63. How is it an offense when I call this person an @*s ramming troll but its not an offense to do that.

despite it was covered that they don't use the steel they list. It's not insulting if its proven fact. You have your own opinion and defend it so why would you look for this. It's like you are coming from 4chan or something. Hold Real 440v and compare to a mantis. Tell me if they are the same. Fact is fact. Performance is fact. They do not preform. Anyone can list a formula. That doesn't mean they use it

I assume you've tested throughout it over weeks to months.
If you haven't then please do not reply to this thread!

OK, I'll bite.

With all the ugly, poorly thought-out designs Mantis has offer, why the Cyclops?

It seems to be the worst possible implementation of the combination of knife and necklace that I've ever seen.

Awkward looking necklace, awkward functioning knife.

You do understand that it's something like 3" in diameter, correct?
:)
