Marksman 830, First Look, WOW! Pics & Video

Thanks for the video. Looks like a great knife. How secure is the the closed blade? The blade appears to swing freely in part of the video.

My pleasure. You are welcome.

If I fling the closed knife very hard I can get the closed blade to open. It must overcome the lockbar, however. Unless you are a knuckle dragging ape man like myself don't try this at home or you could throw the knife thru a window!

In the video the blade swings like a pendulum unless you happen to move your hand just right enabling the blade to swing up into the closed position. I was holding the knife in an awkward position, while working the camera, so my closings were not very slick. Something to work on for the next video.

Oregon,

Sir, how long is the handle? can you put it beside a 110 for size comparison?

110 is 8.5 open overall with 4 7/8 inch handle.

830 is 8.25 open overall with 4 3/4 inch handle.

Very similar in overall length, unlike in weight, thickness, opening/closing ease, pocket carry, pivot friction.

I have been wondering if it would fit nicely in an Alpha Folder leather sheath.
Just in case I wanted to carry it that way ;)

Great thread, thank you for all the good pictures too!

I hope that they add handle color options.

Say, like the Spitfire line has.

I was saddened to miss out when BladeHQ's stock sold out (assuming their in-stock email wasn't an April Fools gag, :) )
Now I'm even sadder... sigh...
Ah well, soon enough. That knife looks awesome, innovative, and dare I say...fun?

It is a tight fit in the Alpha Hunter sheath. Hard to pull out. The problem could arise when you pressure the flipper nub opening the knife but carry flipper nub up and you are golden IMHO.

Thank you for the kind words. You are welcome. I love this stuff.

Congrats on the great score! Looks like Buck has a real winner on their hands!

So far so good baby good. I will holler out if I get any trouble with new folder. You know, CJ Buck carried an 830 for months and his voice was deep and I didn't notice a limp so I am not the first test dummy (no offense CJ, is he smiling???)

Good to know! I'll maybe have to get used to the clip in pocket carry or possibly the nylon Alpha sheath....
Time will tell :)

I saw the prototype done in plastic by a 3D printer while at the Buck factory in Post Falls, Idaho last Summer. I heard CJ talk about carrying one in his pocket. I read about for months. I was ready to order at the jump. The whole process has been fun and exciting for me. It has taken me decades but I know what I like now and it is so satisfying to have the object of your desire.

It fits these sheaths: left to right 450, 110 and Alpha Hunter. Tightest in the 450. Gotta keep the flipper up so you don't open the blade accidentally. With the pocket clip off it is a thin with the fattest width @ 9/16: across the pivot and across the widest part of the locking bar.

I had forgotten this knife! I was carrying my Kershaw RAM today and would be glad to add another G & G Hawk design to my stable.

definitely looks like this knife is on my want list, but does it have a torx screw in the pivot ?, it's hard to tell in the pic if it has a removable screw.

I haven't tried the RAM but I've heard good things about it.

The picot has tool fittings on both sides. Very hard to see. Good question, thank you.

4.30 Ounces on the nose.

Just from looking at the pics I think this knife looks pretty flawless for the price, it has a strong lock, a finger guard, good blade shape and length and not too heavy for the pocket. Everything I look for in a good folder!

IMO, the RAM is the best flipper I have. I don't have anything IKBS though. A flipper is ruined if the detent is to weak. But I really feel like the RAM nailed the detent. It is one of the only folders I have a duplicate of.

Detent: There are two protruding nubs orbiting the pivot end of the blade when you flip the blade open or closed. One nub pushes the lockbar up slightly and seats in the interior of the lockbar cut out while the other nub slightly pushes up the lockbar as you close the blade and the flipper appendage (a third and final gimped nub) seats itself into the cutout part of the locking slab. The detent is the lockbar.

The three nubs on the Marksman's blade:

I paid $92.40 in my hand. I'm a lifer Buck Collector Club member so I have access to a dealer that discounts BCCI lifers.

This knife hits all the bases for a drop point pocket folder for me.

They should be as common as can be in a while and then price competition will start and you will get a discount when the market is saturated. Sometimes waiting pays dividends.

Thank You Oregon for the pic and info.

Wow Steve, great pics and info! You're like a color commentator at the Olympics. :) Mine came today too and I'm almost embarrassed to show these pics (photography is not my forte) after all the great ones you have posted. This is a great knife. I can't believe how light it is. From all the pictures before it came I figured it would have some weight to it.
